Granaiola sits high above Bagni di Lucca, keeping an eye on us. The sun shines on the village long before it reaches us in the morning. In bad weather it sits in cloud. It is always impressive.
I drove up this morning along the narrow, winding road. I wouldn’t like to tackle this when it is wet or icy. I found it challenging enough on a fine sunny day.
Looking up from Ponte a Serraglio.
There is a very good restaurant beside the car park in Granaiola. We haven’t been there for a while, but some recent visitors to our apartment reported that they had an excellent lunch there last week. It must be time for me to go back.
What a lovely tranquil post Deb. The village looks as if you have stepped back through time. I can’t imagine what it must have been like during WWII. It would seem impossible that such a lovely place could be gripped by such fear and torment.
