Viareggio Carnevale 2023

Carnevale Viareggio celebrated its 150th year this year! My first visit to this incredible spectacle was in 2011 and have only missed a couple of years, one of which was because of Covid when it was not held.

Here are a few of my favourite floats.

Here are some of the faces I was able to photograph. Some are from the players involved with the enormous floats and some are the audience.

Work will have begun dismantling the floats and building new ones for next year…can’t wait to see what these clever people come up with.

Carnevale Viareggio has its own category on my blog so you can look through past years if you wish.

  1. It just radiates energy and fun. Thank you for sharing this joy, Debra.

Carnevale in Venice fills me with sorrow, it is not for the residents or ordinary people at all.

    • It is great fun. I love the happiness of the day. I agree with the Venice comment. I have not been, but the photos of people wandering around in those costumes don’t appeal to me at all.

  2. Isn’t it Fabulous!

    • I love Carnevale. I am happy that I arrived in time to see it again this year.

  3. So much imagination! Every year is different. Beautiful!

    • There are wonderful surprises every year! I love it.

  4. Love, love, love!

  5. Love it all! What is on the ground, red in color and looks like stamped down tomatoes? Thanks for showing this.

    • That is squashed confetti. I believe it was to represent violence against women.

      • So interesting, love Italy!

  6. I loved it! Thanks, Debra
