Art and food at Pietrasanta

Pietrasanta is one of my favourite places on the Versilia Coast to visit.  The centre of Pietrasanta is a little inland from the beach and is known for its foundries and art galleries.

There are always amazing art pieces in the main piazza. The very impressive work of Polish artist Igor Mitoraj is now on display.

You may not have noticed the face in the thigh of the sculpture.

…but wait, there’s more.

There are some wonderful restaurants in Pietrasanta. La Giudea was always one of our regular places for lunch and we were a bit disappointed when it changed hands.

We need not have worried, the new owners are doing a great job, and are much more friendly than the previous owner who was a bit of a grouch.  The name has changed too. It is now Barsanti 54.

Here is our food from a couple of visits. All meals were delicious…traditional Italian with a modern twist…just the way I like it.

There are lots of good reasons to visit Pietrasanta.

  1. Pietrasanta is a delightful place and the Barsanti 54 restaurant looks and sounds terrific. Thank you for the tip!

    • I like the town more each time I go.

  2. Pietrasanta is such a wonderful place for a visit! I think I need to return soon…

  3. The food looks pretty good as does the art.

    • The restaurant is great, and very reasonably priced.

  4. Wonderful suggestion! I’m putting it on my to-do list for the summer. The sculptures are so great!

    • The art in the piazza changes regularly, but it is always impressive.

      • Yes really interesting!

  5. The skill of the sculptor is extraordinary – at least it is to my untrained eye – they’re quite surreal and not a little disturbing. I couldn’t help thinking what would the good Burgers of Brisbane do if such an art installation were proposed here. The restaurant looks fabulous and in one of your photos you can see the reflection of a sculpted eye – that’s actually mine pressed up against my iPad trying to lick the plates! Yum yum on all counts.

    • It would be great to see some of these sculptures in good old Brisbane.

  6. A visit is needed

    • Yes, I will return a few times before we leave for home.

  7. Both wonderful Debra… and art! Must have been a fabulous day out! Enjoyed some yummy treats at Marchetti the other day….a little slice of Italy in downtown Brisbane.

    • We are very lucky to have Marchetti in Brisbane. It is my little bit of Italy at home too.

  8. The street art is fabulous. I will be visiting when in that part of Italy!

    • Pietrasanta is a wonderful place to visit. I know you will enjoy it.

  9. Thank you Debra, that looks like a lovely place to visit, never heard of it. Next time around when I’ll be in Tuscany again

    • We visit Pietrasanta regularly and always find something interesting there.

  10. those sculptures are beautiful. Beautiful! and the food looks like art as well. Yum.

    • Pietrasanta is full of treasures.

  11. The restaurant looks wonderful. The sculptures are outstanding. When I was in Pietrasanta I had a super experience which I will write about

    • I look forward to it.

  12. Thank you for the great photos. I love the art. I have never heard of pietrasanta. Another place to put on our list. I think we will have to do a two week tour in October to see all these wonderful places. But I also want to revisit Florence and Venice!

    • Pietrasanta is really worth a visit. I hope you get there.

  13. They are amazing and huge art pieces! 😮 I haven’t heard of this place before so thank you for bringing it to us.

    • A lifetime would not be enough to visit all of Italy’s treasures.

  14. Hi, Debra! I was wondering if you were interested in a link exchange? I could put your link in my blog, in the “favourite websites” section in the menu on the right hand side. 🙂 Let me know if you are interested. Saana

    • The link is done, with pleasure.

  15. now on my list thank you Debra, you are hon consul for Italy.

    • Pietrasanta is a delightful place to visit. We go often.

  16. You find the best treasure … thus another one for my list.

    • I’m sure you will love Pietrasanta.

  17. What interesting sculptures. The one of the face with the cracks in it looks similar to a sculpture in the Boboli Gardens.

  18. This town is shaping up as a must see. Di many great things to see. Art and food alone is enough.
