I love to wander in food markets, and Hong Kong has some wonderful streets with interesting things to see and smell.
There are several street markets on the narrow alleys leading down from Hollywood Rd…come for a food walk.
Some things are easily recognisable.
These poor crabs have been tied up to prevent escape.
I love the pretty quails eggs.
And the salted duck eggs.
Some things are not so easily recognised. Underneath these chickens
were some very odd looking things.
I don’t know if these are animal or vegetable.
I think these are vegetable, but I don’t know what they are.
I think these are jack fruit.
There are lots of dried things.
It would be fun to experiment with some of this strange looking food.
Great tour of the market, Debra. Most of that stuff, I wouldn’t have a clue what to do with. 🙂

Some of these look a little alarming don’t they. Not sure we would want to do a blind tasting!

I do love Chinese markets and the Hong Kong one is great. A feast for the senses! I miss Asia and I go to Chinatown whenever I am in San Francisco. plus it is next to North Beach or Little Italy and I can go to CafĂ© Puccini and have a REAL cappuccino and a chat with the lovely lady from Bagni di Lucca. It’s a small world!

It is fun to walk through the food markets and imagine what you could do with the ingredients.

Sounds like a fun place to visit. I love markets like this. I recently bought some quail eggs just because they were so beautiful. Sara blew out the insides to make an omelet, and I have the shells in a bowl in my studio.
Hugs from Ecuador,
Kathy

Not jackfruit, those spiky fruit are durians, the King of fruit according to Malaysians. Love your posts as always.

Very interesting … especially because I’ve never been to Hong Kong. Just wanted to say hi and start reconnecting with folks. 🙂

Great photos – I also love markets.
As Hong Kong is an island, I expect all their produce would have to come from mainland China? I didn’t expect to see such tasty looking displays coming from China!

I think the produce would be sourced from many different places. The food in Hong Kong is diverse and wonderful.
