Back in Bagni di Lucca

I arrived in Bagni di Lucca to rain and cold…it is winter after all. I don’t mind, I think these cold misty days are beautiful. This is the view from my balcony early this morning.

There is a little bit of snow on the mountains around us.

The sun came out a bit later this morning and it turned intoย a beautiful day. I went for a walk up the hill opposite the apartment to look at our gorgeous village from above.

  3. making me quite jealous – we’re not out until early March ๐Ÿ™

  4. Welcome back, Debra!

    • Thank you, see you soon.

  5. Looks so nice. Miss it deeply!

    • It is great to be back in Bagni di Lucca. I have been visiting my favourite places.

  6. Your view of the world is always so refreshing, Debra. Enjoy your time in BdL!

    • I love being back here…even in the rain.

  7. Reblogged this on ilovelucca and commented:
    Lucky Debra!

  8. Ben tornata, Debra!

    • Thank you, it is good to be back in Italy.

  9. Looks beautiful in every season Enjoy.

    • I love the winter here…and soon it will be spring.

  10. well…. we could do with Spring now – for those of us up in Crasciana, where we have had over 50cm of snow and days of not being able to get up the drive, we would have liked you to bring a little of the Australian warmth with you!! Welcome back!!!

    • I’m sorry I wasn’t able to bring some Queensland sun with me, but spring will be here soon enough.

  11. Thanks for this. We’ve been wondering how it all looks over there – now we know! Have a coffee (have several coffee’s) for us at Il Monaco. Go and get the shopping in at Conad/Essalunga/Leclerc – anywhere; and just enjoy the simple pleasures of like in Bagni

    • If you’re going shopping, go to the small privately owned shops, like Patrizia’s in Villa, instead of the supermarkets. If more people had shopped at the alimentari around the corner from Debra, it would still be open. They’re treasures to be used and preserved.

      • Thanks for the tip on Patrizia’s, we’ll try it next time. Where is it say in relation to La Primavera?

      • Where’s La Primavera? Patrizia owns the fruit and veg shop next to the car park at Il Circolo. She has beautiful fruit and vegetables and is often less expensive than Cinzia’s stall in the Wednesday and Saturday market. Debra did a blog on her a while back. At the Saturday market you can do a lot of shopping from the small stall holders. There a particularly good one with specialities of the Garfagnana. I got something rare from him like salted capers or something like that. Unfortunately the butcher closed and only carries on up here at Casabasciana. I’m sure there are more small shops, but I mainly shop at the my village shop to help keep it alive and so don’t search out others. Debra, help. Please do some more blogs on our small independent shops.

      • I would be happy to do posts on the small shops in the area. I prefer to shop with independent retailers and markets. I rarely buy produce at supermarkets. The food is usually better from small operators and I like to see where the money is going. If we don’t support the family run businesses they will disappear and our choices will be fewer.

    • I have already been to Il Monaco for my fix, and will be back there in the morning.

  12. Beautiful! Thanks for sharing.

    • It is a beautiful place to be, whatever the weather.

  13. Good to hear that you are safely back. The weather is not very kind at the moment throughout Europe. Great to see that Bagni is looking beautiful, no matter the season.

    • There isn’t much we can do about the weather. I love watching the village from the warmth of my living room.

  14. Even in the rain and cold Bagni di Lucca looks beautiful. Enjoy your time there.

    • Thank you, I love it here whatever the weather.

  15. Goodness i have never seen that much water in the river!!! Nice

    • It is always like this in winter, and it can be much higher if we have heavy rain.

  16. I really missed Bagni di Lucca ๐Ÿ™‚ welcome dear Debra, as always beautiful photographs your captured. Thank you, love, nia

    • I miss Bagni di Lucca when I am not here. It is great to be back to walk around our gorgeous village in the misty air.

  17. Welocme back! I love that kind of weather. Cold and misty suit me just fine! Enjoy, my friend, and stay warm.
    Hugs,
    Kathy

    • Let me know when you are back at Ponte a Serraglio and we can meet at Il Monaco.

  20. Looking forward to getting back next week myself. Hope not too many scorpions have moved in! A bit of work with man toys/tools then a bit of skiing in Abetone. My January fix.

    • I’m pleased I don’t seem to have scorpions at Ponte a Serraglio.

  21. oh, I’m not anonymous !!

  22. So envious of that view from your balcony…even in winter ๐Ÿ™‚ Enjoy your stay Debra.

    • The view changes constantly. Today we have no mist, just blue sky and a strong wind.

  23. I can almost smell the chill misty air – how lovely.

    • You would love it here Jan.

  24. Looks wonderful, and welcome back. I get the impression that it may be snowing in San Cassiano.

    • There has been snow in many of the higher villages…I will be off to investigate soon.

  25. Beautiful photos, I’m looking forward to visiting the area in a few weeks and will once again spend an afternoon in the village.

    • Winter is a lovely time to visit. I have noticed that my daffodils are beginning to show themselves on my balcony.

  26. I am sure you love it after the heat of a Brissie summer! My favourite view will always be from your balcony.. I just love that river in all its seasons.. c

    • I never get tired of looking at my view. On these cold, wet days I like to stand at the window watching the village.

      • And I know that you don’t take it for granted, after lives like ours we still know gratefulness for such a gift.. just the watching is wonderful! c

      • I never take my interesting life for granted. I try to make the most of every day.

      • I know you do, that shows in all your photos and writing, you really see details and love to see them.. c

  27. Glad to hear that you’re back in your Italian home. I would love to visit in the winter some time. Love your view!

    • I love Italy in winter…there are no crowds and it is a great time for walking in the hills.

  28. What a lovely view from your balcony – even in winter. Welcome home!

    • I love the view at any time of the year. Winter has its own charms.

  29. I’m coming out in 2 weeks time To check out wedding venues! – what’s the temperature like? Also, what do you recommend we do there in February!?

    • Today it was cold and raining…5 degrees. If you have a car you can visit some of the mountain villages. Most of the restaurants are open. Lucca is always an excellent day trip. Florence and Pisa are not too far away and it is a good time to visit museums and galleries at this time of the year.

  30. Bentornata! x

  31. sheesh Debra what a magnificent view. Lucky you!
I see that the river is quite wide. Are people able to catch fish there?

    • There are trout in the river and we often see people fishing.

  32. I’d love it too. Beautiful.

    • Even in the cold and rain it is beautiful.

  33. All the snow is in London. And we are at sea level.

  34. The air looks lovely and clean however! Glad you had a safe return xcat

  35. Absolutely beautiful, it looks so peaceful and serene!
