Look at our lovely mountains

I love winter here in Bagni di Lucca. Our mountains are very dramatic, and never more so than when there is snow on top.

We went for a drive up to Montefegatesi and on to Prato Fiorito. Lots of snow has melted recently, but there was enough left.

Prato Fiorito means field of flowers and soon it will be covered in wild flowers.

Montefegatesi is the highest of Bagni di Lucca’s villages and the view of it from the road to Prato Fiorito is not bad.

A walk through the village is always interesting. I am very impressed by the roofs with the rocks to weigh the tiles down…it gets windy up there.

I even managed to find a renovator’s delight for you. There are quite a lot of houses in the forest on the way to the base of Prato Fiorito. You can’t see them in the spring and summer when the trees have leaves, but they are all on show now.

We have sun today, but rain and possible snow is forecast for tomorrow.

Spring is just around the corner. Soon this area will look completely different…I will be back.

  1. Gorgeous photos, Debra! Keep warm!

    • Perhaps a day at home tomorrow.

      • Why not, curled up on the couch with a good book and the stunning views from your windows?

      • Beautifil pictures again. Love the winter in BdL, love the views and the quiet.
Did you win? Wasn’t it 03/03 that the results came out? Kept my fingers crossed for you, you so deserve to win!

    • I hope they are in bloom before I leave.

  5. Wonderful photos Debra, I would love to see it when the wild flowers bloom.

    • With a bit of luck they will bloom before I have to go back to Australia.

  6. Lovely photos!

    • Thanks, it is a beautiful area, even with grey skies.

  7. What a great series of photos Deb. We will be excited to see the next series when the wild flowers bloom. Sort of like Monet’s four seasons. Hope you had a lovely birthday on Sunday .

    • My birthday was fun, thanks. Spring is not far away, it will all look so different.

  8. Guess who I recognised this evening!? Georgette (Girl in Florence blog). What a nice surprise that was.

    • I met Georgette a year or so ago. Her blog is interesting.

  9. Lovely

    • Winter is beautiful here, but spring will be even better.

      • I have no doubt that spring will be more beautiful

  10. One of our favourite drives up into the mountains. The views from Montefegatesi are fabulous…especially in winter when you can see through the trees.

    • I love Montefegatesi. It is the first village I suggest people visit.

  11. Enjoy the snow while it lasts Deb! Still stinking hot here….and it’s Autumn!

    • I always find March in Brisbane to be much too hot. It is raining today, a good excuse to stay at home and read a book.

  12. What a beautiful place, even in winter. 🙂

    • I like winter in Bagni di Lucca. Mind you, I wouldn’t want it to go on too long.

  13. Lovely mountainous region…I’m looking forward to seeing your spring wild flower posts!

    • Hellebors are already under the trees, and mini crocuses and snow drops. Daffodils are on their way…spring is coming.

  14. Bella vista! I love the mountains and must take a trip there one day soon.

    • There are hundreds of gorgeous villages in the mountains around here…all worth a visit.

  15. Oh, I do love winter landscapes! Tomorrow is forecast to be 36c in Brisbane! That renovator’s delight looks tempting.

    • I’m glad I am not in Brisbane! Give me cold weather any day.

  16. Thanks for that post and great photos. We like Montefegatesi, there are lots of interesting walks around there, and the views in the summer are quite superb. I’ve never been up there in winter but the views look equally commendable in winter too! Thats a lively community up there, lots of Festa’s in the summer and other community-based events.

    • Montefegatesi does seem to be a lively community. I went to a very well attended dinner there last week.

  17. One of those posts that’s especially hard to look at for me…. in a good way! I just LOVE the colours of the houses on the hill in the half light. Magic.

    • I think our mountains are spectacular in any season.

  18. Can’t wait to get back.

    • I can understand that.

  19. Oh my, that snow looks so inviting. And such stunning scenery. We are expecting 36 degrees today in brisbane. Not looking forward to that. Will just have to think of your inspiring pictures in Italy and try to stay cool.
    Cheers, Robyn

    • I would rather be cold than hot. I will be back in Brisbane for winter.

  20. Priceless photos . . . no noises or other company needed . . . just a place and a time . . . and feeling good . . . nought else in one’s mind . . . don’t know how long your sojourn can last but in a way hope those spring flowers of which you speak will take awhile to blossom . . .

    • I will be here until mid June, there will be lots of flowers by then.

  21. What a very beautiful place you live. Is that in the cinque terre? Divine. I never imagined it would snow there. I guess they are near the mountains?

    • We are in the Apuan Alps in northern Tuscany. Cinque Terre is about 2 hours away on the other side of the mountains.
