I do like to be beside the seaside

Our time at Main Beach has come to an end. The weather has been a mixed bag with sun, rain and some very windy days. Regardless of the weather I was up early every morning for a walk along the beach and a swim in the surf.

There have been some glorious sunny days…and a walk to Surfers Paradise.

All kinds of things get washed up by the waves.

Jelly fish of all shapes and sizes get stranded out of the water.

This one was the size of my thumbnail.

One morning after heavy seas these clumps of sea critters were washed up.

The tiny animals inside the shells were still alive.

This one was not visually appealing.

Unlike this cute little crab who tried to scuttle away from me at speed.

I don’t really like the highrise buildings being so close to the beach.

But the beach and the surf are just the way I like it.

  1. Love them all but those shots with the Pandanus are so typical of that beach and that sea- misty shot along the beach is worthy of a cover. – agree with you, its my favourite beach in Australia too.

    • It is a gorgeous beach. I feel so lucky to have spent my childhood and teenage years there.

  2. There’s nothing like the shores… 🙂

    • One of my favourite things to do is walk along the beach at sunrise and then dive into the surf.

  3. Fabulous pictures once again to enjoy. Very different from what I am seeing at the moment looking at the ice and snow covered rocky coast of Maine. We head to Lucca tomorrow.

    • I will be back in Bagni di Lucca in just over a week…can’t wait.

  4. Gorgeous photos, Debra! Just as usual…

    • It is a very beautiful part of the world.

  10. Beautiful Deb…so many of these look like paintings or visions from a science fiction film.

    • Those sea creatures look amazing.

  11. Wow, that looks so nice, great photos! Apart from the jellyfish… they terrify me for some reason!

    • I don’t like seeing jellyfish in the water, but they don’t bother me on the sand.

      • I wish I could get my husband to travel that far. All of my Australian friends make me yearn to go. Then of course you tempt me to head back to Italy. 🙂

  15. such beautiful sunrise pictures…I never tire of watching a sun come up

    • I love it too, especially on the beach.

  16. Thanks for this lovely walk. Surfers is so different from when I was a kid! But still the beach debris seems much the same.

    • I grew up on the coast in the 1950s and 1960s. My father worked on Kinkabool, the first high rise in Surfers. The second one was built while I was in grade 7. I have seen many changes in Surfers…not all good.

  17. Sorry to be late getting here. I’m trying to catch up. Sad that your time at the beach is ending. Still, I enjoyed the photos, especially seeing the many variety of jelly fish. Hope you have a wonderful weekend, my friend.

    Hugs from Ecuador,
    Kathy

  20. Dreamscape

  21. Buildings are better from afar. Those sea life on the beach looks woeful to see though. Love the images, Debra. You are IT. 😀

    • There is a lovely tree lined esplanade in front of those buildings before you get to the beach, but I still think they are too close.
