The very first Bagni di Lucca Art Festival has just begun at Ponte a Serraglio and I am not there! For the last few months some of the old shops in the main street have been renovated to provide spaces for visiting artists.
The opening night party took place on Saturday night 13th July. Fortunately my friends Kerry and Moira were on hand to take photos so I could at least see the fun. Go to Bella Bagni di Lucca to see more.
The Art Competition was held on Sunday 14th July in the park at Villa Fiori. Kerry was on hand with her camera.
Over the next couple of months Ponte a Serraglio will be alive with art and music.
For 3 nights beginning 18th July our beautifully renovated Casino in Ponte a Serraglio (the first in Europe) will host performances by Ronald Farren-Price, (18th July at 9.00pm) Neco Novellas (19th July at 9.00pm) and the ensemble from the Lucca Opera Festival. (20th July at 9.00pm)
Go to www.artfestivalbagnidilucca.org for more information on the Art Festival.
At the elegant Circolo dei Forestieri right now there are 2 exhibitions on until 25th July.
One is Mail Art, where envelopes are decorated and posted. There are some delightful examples on show.
The other is called Sacred and Profane. Arte Barsanti has been making sacred statues 1900. This is a beautiful collection of photographs and actual statues made by the local factory, which is still operating.
I visited recently…click here to see their fascinating story.
Thank you Kerry and Morena for being there and taking photos for us.
How I wish I could be in Bagni di Lucca right now!
I also wish I was there!

There should be some fun things happening while you are there.

A truly festive atmosphere to make one smile! Love the way the flowers and grapevines spill over the tables, folks ambling about to enjoy the artworks and sculptures and the little lass shyly showing off her painting. Aaah…festivals are la dolce vita!
