Buy a hotel in Bagni di Lucca

The Bridge Hotel at Ponte a Serraglio is for sale. Advertising businesses for sale is not something I normally do on the blog, but I was talking to the owner yesterday and when he told me the price I thought it was such a bargain that I wanted to let you know about it.

The family has owned and run the hotel for more than 30 years and they now wish to retire and move to Lucca to be closer to their children. The Bridge Hotel is where I stayed 10 years ago when I came to Bagni di Lucca to finalise the purchase of our house here.

The hotel has 12 rooms to rent, 3 single and 9 double rooms, all with private bathroom, TV and telephone. There is a lift, a breakfast room with a small kitchen and bar, and a reading room.

There is a small garden at the back of the hotel.

Best of all, there are 2 apartments on the top floor where the owners live. One has 2 bedrooms, living room, kitchen and bathroom.

The other, which was the home of the owner’s mother has a living room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom.

These 2 apartments could be combined to make one larger living area for the new owners.

There is a long balcony on the top floor with views over Ponte a Serraglio.

I know I am biased, but I think Ponte a Serraglio is one of the loveliest of the Bagni di Lucca Villages. We have gorgeous views up and down the Lima River and up to the mountains around us. We have 2 bars, 3 restaurants, a pharmacy, post office, news kiosk, hairdresser and barber and good public transport….and it is beautiful here.

The hotel is for sale for an amazing price, send an email to Giulio at laromea@gmail.com for more information.

  1. How do you get to the hotel? Which airport?

    • The nearest airport is Pisa which is an hour away. We are 25 kilometres from Lucca, one of the most beautiful towns in Italy.

  2. It does indeed seem a very good price – and an excellent location. Oh, for a win on the lottery 🙂

    • Winning the lottery sounds like a good idea.

  3. Winning the lottery seems like a good idea.

  4. what does c350.000 translate to in US dollars?

    • I’m not absolutely sure of the exchange rate right now, but it would be about $450,000.

  5. It’s beautiful and the location is really pretty. It seems like a real bargain. I’m sure someone will soon snap it up. 🙂

    • I hope so, the family is very nice and it would be good for them all to be together.

  6. OMG, this is my dream! 10 minutes from my Mom’s hometown of Benabbio! If i could I would do this! Thanks for sharing and letting me dream a little!

    • It sounds like it was made for you.

      • You’re trouble make Debra! 😉

  7. Oh my my …. I am tempted …. but can’t do it at this time. 🙁

    • It is not all that far from your home town.

      • As we well know!

  8. I love that you made this post. Can you imagine if someone is interested thanks to you? And if nothing else, I think you gave us ALL something to dream about…Merci.

    • Wouldn’t it be great if the blog found someone to buy the hotel? I’m sure the owner would be delighted.

  9. I would like to endorse Debra’s comments, it is a bargain. Great location. Ponte a Serraglio is one of the prettiest sites and a very convenient place to be.La Villa, where the Town Hall s located is only about a km away, but the Ponte has its own Post Office, chemist and nice restaurants and cafes. I am on the other side of La Villa, also on the river, but I go quite frequently to Ponte a Serraglio because I love the atmosphere. Easy to park as well. I think that it is a great opportunity for anyone.

    • I hope someone comes along who will love it and breathe some new life into it.

  10. I read your post from start to finish. Normally i’d not be able to resist getting to the end to see the price, especially for a hotel i’m familiar with.

I have to say i’m absolutely amazed at that price – talk about incredible value for money. 12 Bedrooms and all the rest for €350k. It won’t be on the market for long. I’m a little surprised its even come on the market; I would have thought it’d represent a good investment for a local italian family, perhaps one with an existing business in or near Ponte?

    • I think is is an excellent business opportunity for someone. It would be great for a young couple to take it on.

  11. Lots of retro here, love the coffee machine. And you are right a young couple should take it on.

    • I think it would be perfect for a young couple. They get to have a home and a business together.

  12. What a temptation! They are wonderful people who feel like family to me. I’ve know them for close to fifty years. Sad to see this sale but it’s time for them to enjoy life. Perfect opportunity for an energetic young couple to live and work in a fabulous area.

    • Pass the information on to everyone you know and maybe we will find someone to take over.

  13. Very tempting Debra! Price is really pretty good.

    • Tell everyone you know, let’s find a buyer.

  14. Reblogged this on ilovelucca and commented:
you too can love Lucca!! Well Bagni di Lucca 🙂
I shall be counting my NZ dollars up:)

    • Maybe a New Zealand couple would love to make this their new home.

      • Yes, me….Sadly Hubby is not amored as I by Lucca or italy… He loves NZ….Italy is ok for a visit he tells me:)
But I can dream…you never know:)

  15. It would be so lovely to take that on. I would love to bring forward some of the Art Deco feeling of the place and the living quarters on the top floor would be terrific made into one. We could develop a vegetable garden at the back with chickens for eggs for guests’ breakfasts. We could…..umm, ah, I think you suggested “young” couple – problem there.

  16. Sounds like the deal of the century – a home and business rolled into one! I shall have to share on Facebook 🙂 I hope from this blog, we find enthusiastic new owners!

    • Please share it with everyone you know. It would be great to find a buyer.

  17. Wow that’s a bargain! I hope that this post helps find a new owner for the hotel.

    • Me too! The owners are lovely, I would love to help them find a buyer.

  18. Love your village Debra and hopefully someone will have a very good lifestyle and business. Cannot believe the price. I am glad it wont be you and Jim buying it though. We want you to always be as you are now half Italian and half Australian.

    • It won’t be us, we have quite enough property in Italy. If I was younger I would consider it.

  19. Ooooh….I hope someone or a vibrant couple takes on this gorgeous hotel and retain its unique charm! I love the retro decor, the garden, the apartment, the views – like ‘a home’ away from home. Love the way the kitchen looks out to the back garden. Debra, let’s hope your advertisement will attract the buyer(s) who will fit in well in Ponte a Serraglio. I agree that this is one of the prettiest villages along the Lima.

    • Tell all your friends. Even Jim, the accountant, thinks it is a good buy.

  20. I would love to have a small hotel in Italy. I can imagine The Bridge in its day….Are you tempted yourself Deb??? I wonder.

    • You could make this work.

      • I like that you think so Debra. Thank you!!!! A presto x

  21. Reblogged this on glennlouise.

    • Thank you for helping to spread the word.

  22. You’d make a great estate agent! And the price IS very enticing. Hope your efforts help them sell up!

    • I hope so too. It would be good to see these people happy.

  23. With its lovely location and good price, I’m sure someone will take on the task. As you say a young couple would be able to live and work right in the heart of the town. I’m sure you will be doing a post about the new owners and their vision for the hotel in the near future.

    • That would be great if we got a dynamic couple to take over and make a new life here.

  24. Tempting – I’ve always fancied running a hotel!

    • Perhaps you should come over and have a look at it.

  25. Ciao Deb, do you know if the real estate is included in that price?

    • The family has owned the hotel for decades, so I would think you would be buying everything.

  26. O, if only….!

    • Why don’t you come on over and take a look.

  27. How amazing would that be! I would get to say Buon Giorno every morning.

    • Would you like to move to Bagni di Lucca and take over?

  28. Is the family able to finance a portion, say 100,000, and the rest in cash?

  29. Deb who shall I contact for more information. Im not sure if you remember me I had dinner with you and your husband at Marcos. Im from the US.

  30. Sounds a great lifestyle change for someone wanting to move to Italy keep us posted would love to hear if you sell it!! xx Carla

    • Tell all your friends about it. It would be an excellent opportunity to have a business in Italy.

  31. Oh my! How I wish I had the dough 🙁

  32. Reblogged this on michalen.

  33. Wow, what a bargain! And what an adventure it would be to take over somewhere like that… I hope you get commission if someone buys it after seeing it on here!

  34. Any news? Did any serious buyers come up? Can the couple make the move to Lucca?

    • Hello, I am Giulio, the son of the Hotel’s owner Giampaolo,
thank you very much for your interest in the Bridge Hotel property
at the moment we have two negotations, but the hotel it is not sold and of course it is still on the market ,

there are 2 different people interested,

the first is an Italian family and they want to continue our job with the Hotel,

the second is an American professor and He’s checking the possibility to buy the building for his students in Italy

The last price is euro 500.000
there not real estate commissions because it is a direct negotiation with the owner

if you want we can send you some pictures
for any information I would be pleased to help you.
      Giulio Calissi

      • I hope you can find a buyer who will love the hotel as much as your family has.

  35. Thanks Debra
