New York shop windows

New York is synonymous with shopping. I took advantage of a fine day to walk the streets to see the spring offerings. Come for a walk with me from Soho to Madison Ave and a few places in between.

Each window in this Soho shop had a different coloured chameleon…possibly more interesting than the clothes.

The Prada shop in Soho is amazing for its design as well as for the clothes.

I think skateboarders would have fun here.

Bottega Veneta is always a favourite.

Bulgari has decorated for the Year of the Snake.

Bergdorf Goodman windows are always works of art. Books are the theme at the moment.

The detail in this Alexander McQueen dress was exquisite.

Animal Farm was the next theme.

The next window was still being assembled…Alice in Wonderland perhaps?

The next group of photos were taken in Madison Ave. I am sorry about the reflection in some…but sometimes I think it is fun to see New York reflected.

Barneys menswear is wonderful. The main windows were fabulous, but they involved movement and video screens and I couldn’t photograph them successfully.

Pucci liked the snake theme as well.

The Ralph Lauren stores on 72nd and Madison are spectacular.

The next photo is for you Di…I know how you love Ralph…and these sleeves are you.

The pretty red and white dress is Oscar de la Renta, the 2 above I can’t remember. The next 3 are Etro.

Moschino is next.

Alexander McQueen again.

Dianne Von Furstenberg.

Shoes and accessories are in all colours of the rainbow this season.

…now where is that money tree?

  1. Wow, Debra–you really went to work!!! You managed all that walking and shopping and shooting even with jet lag??? Brava. It’s really fun to see what’s IN in the Big Apple these days. Grazie!

    • I don’t get jet lag. I like to hit the ground running and just get on with it. I walked miles that sunny day. I had to make the most of a good day and be outside as much as possible.

  2. Some of the displays are really beautiful, there are handbags and shoes I would love to have, but I would not wear some of the shoes… not in a thousand years. Thanks for this shopping walk!

    • I wouldn’t be wearing the shoes either, but they are fun to look at. I need my feet.

  3. Thanks Debra for the great shots. some of the shoes are incredible. And I thought the shoes in Italy were something else! Sounds like a fun day. Enjoy NYC!

    • Most of the shoes would actually be Italian…and unwearable.

  4. Totally green with envy. I wish I was there! Thank you for sharing those beautiful photos with us. Enjoy your stay!

    • You wouldn’t be quite so green if you were standing in the freezing rain…and strong wind.

  5. WOW! fascinated me all these fashion shots… Thank you dear Debra, love, nia

    • It is a very interesting season.

  6. You’ve put me in a spring shopping mood. Gorgeous! Love the Alexander McQueen, always so intricate and meaningful. Hard to resist those heels too. Enjoy enjoy enjoy!

    • There are somw gorgeous clothes this season. I agree with you about McQueen.

  7. Debra, you take the best photos of clothes in windows ever. Those Bergdorf Goodman shots could have come straight out of Vogue (and I KNOW your photos are straight out of the camera!). The fashion folks have it all wrong, they should have you on the other side of the runway taking photos, rather than behind dressing models! (Although I’m sure you’re supremely good at that too.. :)) xx

    • The Bergdorf windows are just beautiful, and I will go back in a few days and see what happened with the unfinished window.

  8. Deb- lots of waists & little belts – prints everywhere – some divine things – as you said money tree where are you? Will be thinking if you Friday – hope you are going somewhere super xx

    • I will be having a lovely dinner with Brandon and some friends in Greenport Long Island on Friday…all good.

  9. Where’s all the Gangsers – Pimps and Hookers ?

    • I haven’t spotted any yet, but I will let you know if I do.

  10. The New York shop windows look fab. Wishing you a very Happy Birthday – I am I think a bit early but you mightn’t post again before the day.

    • Thank you for the birthday wishes. I can’t believe I am almost 60. Where does the time go?

  11. Love that Prada store. Do you remember we were there when it was brand new. Love most of the new season looks. Just wish I was there. Thinking of you tomorrow. Happy Birthday

    • I do remember going there when it was new and thinking how amazing it was. It is still pretty impressive.

  12. My goodness your photos look professional! Thanks for taking us along with you. I like the fabric in the Alexander McQueen dress.
Some of the shoes are quite ridiculous!

    • A lot of the shoes are ridiculous, but pretty to look at.

  13. There seems to be a lot of “creatures” there which is interesting. It’s been way too long since I visited New York šŸ™

    • It is a couple of years since I have been in New York and I am enjoying walking the streets again.

  14. Three words: Ooh. La. La.

    • There is lots to love in these windows.

  15. THANK YOU Debra for bringing us still ‘another world’. Wow, the shoes!! Gobsmacked! Since you’re so close why don’t you pop over to Toronto; check out Bloor/Bay/Yonge area, Holt Renfrew might impress you and, if there’s time, the Bata Shoe Museum. It ain’t New York but there is some comparable opulence. Queen Street West for funky fashion and the Distillery District for galleries and more. Enjoy your time in North America.

    • I would love to visit Toronto one day. I have heard lots of good things about the city. I think it needs its own trip.

      • Well that’s a promising thought; if anyone will ‘make it happen’ it will be you! Maybe not during winter time, a Springtime would be better. All the best!

  16. Great pictures of some wonderful displays! I like the reflections too – it’s a little bit of New York City… šŸ™‚

    • I like the reflections too. I am keen to walk through Central Park soon…I am hoping for a nice day.

  17. Absolutely fabulous photos. Great fashions, you must have been in your element with all those beautiful clothes. I see a hint of 70’s and 80’s also. The shoes, OMG. thanx Lyn

    • It certainly was fun wandering the streets on New York…it is a great city.

  18. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! New York is a great place to spend a birthday especially when you get to be with Brando.

    • Greenport is a great place too. We were up early for a birthday breakfast before Brando started work.

    • Greenport is a great place too. We were up early for a birthday breakfast before Brando started work.

  19. NYC is certainly a wonderful place for window shopping. … Oh .. Happy Birthday!

    • Thanks for the birthday wishes. 60 is going to be fun, I just know it.

      • Oh that’s right … I was just a couple of weeks ahead of you … thus we went to different high schools together.

      • I went to school on the Gold Coast in Queensland…a long way from you.

  20. Amazing and super inspirational. Even though the world’s in a bit of strife, I love seeing these incredible displays of creativity and hope really. I bet you had a wonderful time.

    • I love fashion, even if I can’t wear the things in these windows. I love to look and sometimes wish that I was young again and could slip into some of these gorgeous things.

  21. These clothes make me drool! I can’t imagine ever having the money to afford these things nor wear them! Yet I do love to window shop!

    • Perhaps some of these things are not for us, but we can enjoy looking.

  22. Wow! Absolutely droolworthy, every single one! Makes me want to check flights to NY NOW! And Debra, seems like you beat some record for the largest number of images per post with this one šŸ˜€

    • I didn’t want to leave anything out! I have seen many more since, but I have resisted taking more photos of shop windows.

  23. Deb, this is one of my favourite all time blogs of yours – I just re read it as i am going to NY in October. Love it love it . How do you stop the glare on the windows when you take the photos – well done . I will hopefully have great shots to share with you after that.
