When I am not backstage dressing gorgeous models at the Ekka, I get to wander about looking at some of the exhibits. I always head for the animals.
The cats come first. This is an Abyssinian kitten, my favourite cat. I would love to take this one home.
The baby lambs are just too cute for words.
This is Pam.
And this is Willow.
Now to the thing I love the best at the Ekka….the poultry pavilion.
I think these boys are showing off. The next one is just being a pigeon.
Pigeons come in all shapes and sizes. Now for the chooks.
This one was enormous…and a champion of the show. Look at the size of his legs.
Ducks are well represented as well. These are more difficult to photograph between the bars of the cages.
And now for the most amazing birds of all….the turkeys……surely faces that only a mother could love. The turkeys are the most difficult of all to photograph, they just won’t stand still and want to peck the camera.
As well as trying to peck me, they were desperately trying to get at each other. The squawking, clucking, crowing and gobbling in the pavilion has to be heard to be believed.

I think the kitten and lamb are my favorites. Back when I hoped to get another cat, the Abyssinian was one I wanted. Such sweetness.

The crowds around the cats make I difficult to get close. I have always had Abyssinian cats. My last one Tallulah, died 4 years ago and as much as I want another, I travel too much to make it practical.

The lamb is gorgeous and the kitten is very cute but I am not sure about the birds. Probably because I was startled by a bird flying through my open window yesterday and madly flapping against another window pane in an attempt to get out again. The only way of rescuing him was to throw the nearest thing, one of my *best* tea towels over him so I could grab him and shove him out the window. I threw the tea towel in the bin afterwards because I was worried about germs!

I don’t think birds are particularly germy….lice perhaps….but I don’t think your tea towel was at much risk. I’d get it back from the bin and wash it.

That was the best fun! Such incredible photos. Don’t those turkeys look almost reptilian. I love the little pigeon that is just being a pigeon and I must say some of those ducks with the top knots look not unlike some models:) the kitten is so lovely but don’t be tempted Debra – Abysinnia and Italy do not have a good history!

They mostly didn’t stand still….many of my shots are blurry or are very good photos of a blank wall, or a wing tip. I think some of those pigeons have been doing a bit of body building.

I love the humour in those bird photos, Deb! Your close-up, detailed shots of the chooks made me notice the distinctiveness of their combs, something I don’t always take much notice assuming they all look the same. Through your lens, you make all creatures great and small delightful and entertaining.
