Stella Maris church was designed by Michele Busiri Vici in the early 1960s. It sits, gleaming white, overlooking the harbour in Porto Cervo, on Costa Smerelda in the north of Sardinia.
.
I love the clock on the outside of the building, just to let sailors know what time it is, so they don’t miss mass.
The interior is beautifully simple. The furniture smells of the local juniper from which it is made.
There are gorgeous details all around the church.
I dare you to find a cuter church.
I must have missed this church, how cute!

What an intriguing-looking church! Hmmm…it looks like it has some Greek influence. I would love to know more about its history. I love the sleek shapes almost reflecting everything to do with the sea – shells, waves and conical shapes. Even the columns are interesting. I’ve never seen anything like this before; so, finding this church is a wonderful discovery. Thank you for sharing this lovely church with us, Debra. I look forward to your exploring more new adventures on Sardinia.

That blue sky! Jealous! (rain was back again here yesterday!)This church looks adorable, I agree with the earlier comment on it looking greek, if I didn’t know it was Sardinia I’d think this was Santorini, circular white and blue roof against such a blue sky. Lovely!

I would never have guessed that this adorable church was done in the 1960s… at the time it seems like much of the world was bent on building the ugliest structures possible!

I thought the same thing Sandra did. The church looks almost Greek–but gorgeous. Cobalt blue roof is stunning.
Been out of town for a few days, finally getting back in the swing of things. Sorry to have missed a few of your posts, Deb.

That’s so enchanting – it looks like it has been built by fairies; or a sandcastle built by mermaids to call the sailors in. I love the terracotta roof tiles on the Italian buildings – what lovely images you are filling your head with. Stunning photos.
