Arrivederci Ponte a Serraglio

Our time in Ponte a Serraglio is over for now. We will return in September.

It was cold and damp when I arrived and gradually spring turned everything green.

It became a little brighter.

Daffodils are the first signs of spring. The clever little things come up in the pots on my balcony every year.

The poor pansies on the bridge suffered with heavy rain and wind.

The purple ones protected by my balcony fared better.

We had lots of rain.

There were landslides and road closures.

Spring came finally and turned things green.

Magnolias and wildflowers came.

My balcony plants came to life.

My iris turned from this.

To this.

To this.

Marvellous Annalisa from Bar Italia expanded into the Tabacchi and created a beautiful new space. We immediately claimed the new chairs and filled them every morning.

Thank you Annalisa and crew for making Ponte a Serraglio a thiving and lively place to be, and for serving the best coffee and pastries!

Thank you also to La Ninfa for your beautiful terrace and delicious food.

I love our little corner of Italy. I can’t wait to get back.

  1. How quickly time flies! The flowers are looking good. Such a beautiful place Debi and Bar Italia is looking gorgeous. Safe journey home…

    • The time did seem to go quickly! We are in England now for a couple of weeks.

  2. Beautiful pictures and comments from Debra. A big thank you for your many reports and pictures, which always inspire me.
I spent a week in August 2025 in my great-grandfather’s home town of Bagni di Lucca.
I was last there 50 years ago as a child and only spent a few hours with my parents in BdL.
Part of my blood and DNA comes from that place. I immediately had this feeling that I had found something there that had become foreign to me in Germany. I was immediately in love with Bagni di Lucca and will visit it again in August 25. It’s a shame that Debra won’t be back until September. I would have loved to get to know her. Thank you again for these great pictures.

    • Thank you for your kind comments. I think Bagni di Lucca touches many hearts. We love splitting our time between Brisbane, Australia and Bagni di Lucca. It is stunningly beautiful in any season and we have made friends there.

  3. It’s like the daffodils and flowers are giving you a reminder to return! I love the look of those crumbed artichokes too 🙂
