We have implements

…and we are not afraid to use them.

Despite the fact that they are all a lovely matching blue, we bought them to be used. We are going to have a gorgeous garden at Casa Debbio soon.

Here is Jim with his brand new wheelbarrow and spade, clearing rocks from one of the terraces below the house.

Meanwhile Alfredo was hard at work clearing the brambles that seem intent on taking over the property.

I was clearing rocks too and had built a fine rock wall on the edge of the terrace, but the real wall builders snaffled them off for the foundations of the wall they are building right now. (I’ll show that in another post)

We enjoyed Casa Debbio’s very first outdoor lunch.

Spring is finally here and flowers are popping up everywhere. We have our very own daffodils, primulas, violets and other things I don’t know the name of.

After endless delays because of the horrible weather things are moving along at speed. There will be progress reports.

Responses

  1. Lots of work to be done! Good luck…

    • Lots to be done, but things are moving quickly now that fine weather has finally arrived. Geraniums went into pots today and our stone walls are almost finished.

  2. That patio/terrace looks wonderful!!

    • It will look even better soon when the climbing roses and wisteria are planted. They are there in pots…waiting.

  3. Good to see that you are finally able to work on the garden.

    • We feel that we are getting somewhere at last!

  4. Wow, you really settled in! How peaceful it is
    up there…

    • We will be planting a vegetable garden, so we may be having lunch with our own tomatoes soon.

  6. Lovely, just lovely. Looks like you are really up in the mountains there. And speaking of mountains, what a mountain of work to keep it all clear. Complimenti!

    • The brambles have been growing unchecked for years. Now that they have been cleared it won’t be such a big job to keep them down. The grass is already turning green with spring and the cherry trees are covered with blossom.

  7. I love the blue tools; good luck with establishing the garden.

    • No doubt they will be shabby soon, but that is what is meant to happen.

  8. How nice to work in the garden… beautiful photographs… Thanks and Love, nia

    • Establishing a brand new garden is hard work, but it is going to be beautiful.

  9. I wish I could see it all finished and come and help with the garden!
    Alison

    • Come on over…we could use all the help we can get!

  10. You know you’ve got spring fever when you go and buy a whole new matching garden set!! Love those flowers, too.

    • I don’t know about spring fever, but I certainly have hay fever with all those blossoms.

  11. and you’ll know how to use them! What fun…. And what a difference a year makes! x

    • We are learning to be gardeners…we are city people.

  12. Oooh! All this activity is exciting! Your labours of love will reap lovely rewards when all those plants and foliage will grow and bloom. The double daffodil looks stunning! Such an idyllic spot for an outdoor lunch. I love the mosaic table and the rustic dinnerware. Casa Debbio will be a real attraction for friends and tourists to enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

    • The activity is exciting after waiting around in the rain for months.

  13. How exciting. So much work ahead for you but gosh the rewards will be so worth it. I love your outdoor table.

    • It will be worth it when we see everything finished.

  14. gorgeous Debra. What a lovely spot to have lunch too.

    • It will be even lovelier when the plants are growing everywhere.

  15. Reminds me of all the work ahead of me in my garden but in the end it’s all worth it. Lovely outdoor space. Looking forward to your updates

  16. I must take you to Carlo Galgani, the blacksmith, for some REAL tools!

    • That would be great…but I’m not sure that we are real gardeners!

  17. How lovely it all looks – those tools will not be clean and blue for long! LOL!

    • The wheelbarrow is already looking worn in.

  18. Looks like a well deserved lunch break 🙂

    • The first of many at Casa Debbio.

  19. Your hard work on the garden prompts us to do the same with ours. UIt’s good to tackle the brambles now before they become totally impossible!

    • Brambles are horrible things. I want them wiped out.

  20. Lovely terrace! Please post pictures when everything is blooming!

    • There will be lots of posts on the growing garden.

  21. A lot of work but how beautiful it will be when finished. Look forward to seeing pictures of the Vegetable garden etc. Love your table on the patio,.
