On my last visit to Forte dei Marmi, on the coast near Bagni di Lucca, the sea looked amazing. It looked like a sheet of silver satin rippling under the sky. The sea and sky were almost the same colour and it created quite an eerie feeling.
This was one side of the pier. The other side looked quite different.
The view from the pier towards the marble mountains is always spectacular.
Later in the day the light changed.
Quite spectacular change of colours. The multicoloured Tirrenian Sea instead of the usual blue one. Great photos.

We take day trips to Forte every summer to visit friends who have a place there and I have to say it looks much more inviting off season. Same goes for Levanto, our usual hang-out; I love it when the beach chairs get put away the middle of September but the sea is still warm. I always feel as though the beach is reclaiming its true self then.

I am never in Italy in summer, I prefer to be here when it is more quiet. I love Forte dei Marmi, we go often for lunch at Il Fortina, for some of the best seafood. I struggle to decide between the branzino ravioli with scampi and the spaghetti ai frutta di mare.
