A fishy tale

lots of fish

I loved this float for no other reason than it had lots of fish in it.

what are they afraid of?

this

I'd swim away too

it looks fierce

and hungry

will the fish get away?

will they be fast enough?

NO

This is the last post about the Carnevale. I am now going to do something I don’t usually do – post a picture of myself. Rosi was on hand to catch me with a face full of foam from a spray can. Next came confetti, a bit like being tarred and feathered, in the nicest possible way.

me covered in foam

If you haven’t seen them, look back over the last few posts to see more of the incredible Carnevale at Viareggio.

  1. The fish are gorgeous (I especially love the silver ones), but you look pretty good yourself! Foam and all.

    • Thanks for that. I’d rather be on the other side of the camera.

  2. Look at how terrified those poor fish look! Lovely photo of your gorgeous self, Deb! 🙂

    • I loved this float, it was free of messages, except perhaps, don’t swim with sharks. When Rosi showed me the photo of my foamy self I just had to share it, even though I’m not fond of photographs of myself.

  3. I’ve really enjoyed your Carnevale series! 😀

    • Thank you. I had fun doing it.

  4. Very good fun Deb. Gosh I wish I was there instead of here in extremely busy Brisbane. Your photo did make me smile. xx to you.

    • I guess it is hotting up already for the fashion festival. You should come for a quick holiday before it really gets busy.

  5. I love reading your blog. You really live for the moment and your photos show that.

You’re from Brissie? I love Australia… Melbourne was one of my favorite places to have layovers when I was a flight attendant.

Where are you off to in Spain by the way? You’re going to love it!!! Spain and it’s people is just amazing!!

I might be coming to Bologna soon!!! It would be so cool to meet you!!

Have a fantastic time traveling to Spain, and enjoy all the wine and TAPAS!!!

    Bisous,

    • Thanks for your comments. I think your blog is fabulous. I love your photos. I am from Brisbane. We are going to Spain in a couple of weeks. We are driving across from Italy and staying in Madrid, Cordoba, Cadiz, Granada and Valencia and hopefully seeing a few other places along the way. We have been to Barcelona and loved it, so I am sure we will enjoy the places in Spain we are going to.
My house is in Bagni di Lucca, near Lucca. Will you be coming this way?

      • Thanks so much for your compliments about my blog! I am very select about the blogs I read, and your blog is one in my reader list, definitely. I love reading about the place where you live… It sounds so interesting there. And I love all your food posts too!!!

Brisbane is a nice place, I haven’t spent a lot of in-depth time there because I was on layovers, but the time that I did have there was fun. The flight crew used to love Brisbane for the weather and the nights out!

How long are you staying in Madrid? Do you have your accommodation already sorted out? – Valladolid is about one hour and a half from Madrid, and the place that I stayed at is linked in my latest blog post. I think you’d love it there. The drive through the countryside is soooo beautiful too. That part of Spain has a lot of old buildings from the Arab invasions hundreds of years ago, so lots of towering archways. There’s also a little town, not too far from Valladolid where there is a winery… I’d recommend a visit to it, because after looking at the history of wine you can go up to the old town behind the winery and have a look at Santa Maria church and the quaint little alleyways. The backdrop of mountains there is beautiful, too! I’ll be writing about it in my blog, soon! So you can see it all soon 🙂

GRENDADA!!! Really? That is a place I’ve always wanted to go to in Spain. I imagine gypsies and flamenco dancing. Ahhhh!!!

I’m not sure where I’ll be going, but I would love love LOVE to come to your town. It looks so quaint!!! I can see my self taking photos everywhere there!!

Thanks again for always leaving nice comments on my blog. It’s so cool to connect with someone who is not very far away, who also blogs. Feels a bit like being in New Zealand and having Australia just across the ditch!

        Have fun in Spain!

        Dakota 🙂

      • I look forward to your other posts on Spain and Italy. We are staying at Paradore Chinchon in Madrid. Who knows, we may get up to Valladoid since it is not too far away. I am most looking forward to Granada and Alhambra. I will be sure to take lots of photos. Keep on blogging.

  6. p.s Wait until you see my photos from Sicily. Have you been to Sicily? It’s one of the most beauuuutiful places I’ve visited in Italy!!!

    • I went to Sicily nearly 40 years ago and then only Messina, so doesn’t count. We are really looking forward to going there soon. I can’t wait to see your photos.

      • Sicily 40 years ago would have been TRULY breathtaking, I can only imagine!!!!

I stayed at the most beautiful guest house in Taormina, Sicily. It was only 35 euros per person, per night, but it actually felt like a 4 star hotel. It’s across the road from the ocean, and the interior of the place makes you feel warm as soon as you walk in. And all the facilities are new, not to mention the owner is a really genuine Sicilian, and he makes beautiful breakfasts.

It’s not right in the town center of Taormina, but it’s a great location because it’s within walking distance of Puerto Rico Beach, and a few other beaches. A bus journey to the top only costs about one eu twenty, and it’s so worth it.

Hope you get back to Sicily soon. It’s such a magical place!

        Bisous,

        Dakota

  7. Where did the foam come from? LOL

    • People were running about with spray cans of foam and silly string and bags of confetti. I am still sweeping confetti from my floor and finding bits in my pockets.

  8. Deb you look beautiful in the picture, foam and all. (I like sneaky pics of the people behind the post 🙂

    • I probably would have looked better with more foam.

  9. What a great carnival Debra., & fantastic to see you too…. even if you are all foamy 🙂 Its great to put a face to the name 🙂

    • Thanks, I am happy to be behind the camera.

  10. Deb, so good to see your face, even if it is covered with foam:)

    • Hi Mirella, Nice to hear from you. I hope all is well with you.

  11. I like the second last photo – the fish skeleton – sad, but at the same time comical and nicely done.

You’re going to Spain? I can’t wait to see your photos. I backpacked through Spain years ago. Loved the country and the people.

    • We are going to Spain in early April for a couple of weeks. We are going to Madrid, Cordoba, Cadiz, Granada and Valencia. I think it is going to be great fun. We went to Barcelona a couple of years ago, and thought it was incredible. I’m sure I will be taking lots of photos.
