On my wanderings in the village I have spotted some early signs that spring is on its way. The mid winter weather is being very kind to us just now, but it won’t last, I know we will get more rain and cold before spring comes. Meanwhile, snowdrops have appeared along the road to La Villa.
Soon the leaves will start to appear on the trees. You can practically watch them turn green before your eyes. I love it!
I took these photos before I went to Bologna and was thrilled with the snowdrops until I saw the field of snowdrops on Zeb Bakes blog. Take a look. Click here and look for Snowdrops at Painswick – dogs allowed!
Oh what colour there will be when these are all in flower. I eagerly await the photos. Many thanks for these regular treats.
Regards,
Helen

We’re looking forward to arriving in Europe in April, but by then even the tulips will be finished. we miss the seasons when we’re in Australia.

You must get a bit of seasonal change in Sydney. In Brisbane we have hot, and not so hot. Apart from the frangipanis, jacaranda and poinciana, there is nt much difference. In April here we will have wisteria, peonies growing wild by the side of the road, irises, poppies etc etc. Be warned, there wil be photos.

It’s about time…I don’t know about BdL, but in Milan, we’ve had enough of cold and rain and FLU and intestinal virus and …
The spring flowers are the most beautiful. Thank you for this.

Everyone here is sick of winter – except me – I quite like it. I do love to spring come though.

Every snowdrop is precious and the ones you see by the roadside are the strong surviviors. Thanks for the mention! Did you know that snowdrops are traditionally supposed to bloom on Candlemass Day and are associated with graveyards and the dead as they grow so low to the ground, and there are superstitions about not bringing them in the house, Brian’s Gran would never have them in the house he says.

I didn’t know that about poor little snowdrops. They are so pretty, it would be a shame to pick them anyway.

My sister grows them at her vineyard – Curly Flat – in Lancefield, Victoria. I’m from Brisbane, where we never see them.

I’m so glad I found you lovely ladies. My fiance and I will be honeymooning in Tuscany and staying in Lucca for several days at the end of May. I’d appreciate any recommendations for anything in and around the area! Thanks!

Hi Kate, Do you need suggestions for places to stay? There are lots of posts about the area if you are looking for places to visit and good places to eat. There will be lots more from now on as I am here until mid May. Let me know what type of accommodation you are looking for.
