The coastline along the south west of Western Australia is stunning. The sea is crystal clear and sparkling. There are white sandy beaches and rugged rocky outcrops with forests and scrub coming right down to the sea.
Tiny towns hide in the trees and it looks remarkable untouched.
The Margaret River area has some beautiful beaches.
The sky looks amazing too.
Redgate beach has some fierce wave action.
The sea is a serious blue at Cape Naturaliste.
Yallingup beach provides excellent conditions for kite surfing on a windy day.
Busselton has a long jetty. Take a walk out there to admire the view.
Cape Leeuwin is the most south-western point in mainland Australia. Here the Indian Ocean meets the Southern Ocean.
Indian Ocean side.
Southern Ocean side.
The lucky residents of the area are spoiled for choice.
We certainly are spoilt for choice. The beaches are very picturesque and the water is nearly always inviting.

How beautiful and such fantastic colours – does it remind you of the Mediterranean?

It is gorgeous, but quite different from the Mediterranean. The plants and trees are different and the coast line different. Some of the rocky parts are a bit like Sardinia, but mostly it is different.

OMG so beautiful. WA is so spectacular. I have been to Margaret River a couple of times but that was over 20 years ago so I cannot remember much. Would love to return!

We cycled from Melbourne to Adelaide 5 years ago, along the Great Ocean Road and along part of the Margaret River. It was incredible. A fabulous 3 weeks – with a stopover on Kangaroo Island, not to be missed.

The Great Ocean Road is a fabulous drive. We have driven along it a couple of times. I doubt that I would be braver enough to cycle it.
We are currently in the Margaret River region of Western Australia, another beautiful part of Australia.

Hi Debra, We are there (Margaret River) for 10 days in February – our first trip to Australia. A place called Smiths Bay, I think. We will certainly refer to your pieces for guidance and places to visit. (Trevor and Christine from BdL)
