Amalfi Coast

The drive along the Amalfi Coast is a wonderful experience. Here are a few photos taken from the bus. The windows weren’t all that clean and there is a bit of reflection, but you will get the idea.

The road is narrow.

The views are amazing. Be sure to sit on the sea side of the bus. After stopping in Positano (see previous post) we went on to Amalfi.

We stopped for a cool drink in front of the beautiful church in Amalfi.

The campanile is quite intricate.

We took the boat back to Positano for a different view of the coast.

Here we are leaving Amalfi.

I will be back to this gorgeous area in spring.

  1. Remember that bus trip very well! Amazing how most people make it and still alive. But what amazing scenery worth the heart palpitations.

    • It used to be my local bus, so I got used to it. I love the area.

  2. Last time we were there we stayed for a week at a wonderful small town called Praiano. We had our car with us and we drove along the coast. We even ventured up to Paestum. A memorable trip.

    • Sorry, that was me. I do not know why the site refuses to identify me automatically as before….

      • Peculiar! I have not been to Praiano, just past it. I must stop there one day.

  3. It seems like a very nice place. Beautiful photos!

    • The Amalfi Coast is one of the most beautiful places in all of Italy.

  4. wow that place is so Beautiful ,,, I am from Indonesia …
please see my post too and follow

    • I have Indonesian cousins, but have only been to Bali.

      • Very good ,, who is your cousin’s name

  6. Wonderful photos, they bring back happy memories of our holiday in Positano. We also did the boat trip, to and from Amalfi. We hired a car from the airport, not nice meeting the buses and coaches on those lanes! But worth it.

    • Driving that road is something to experience. My niece drives at great speed and takes her hands off the wheel to cross herself every time she passes a little shrine. My husband refuses to sit in the front seat.

  7. Wow – but i think i’d be packing a parachute for the bus ride:)

    • You do get used to it.

  8. Fabulous photos Deb. Hope we get to visit this part of Italy one day

  9. I worked on a film there for a couple of months once – in my other life – quite my favourite place in the world. We had a house right on the cliff overlooking the Med. These images made me feel a bit homesick.

    • I love it too. It was my introduction to Italy 45 years ago.

  10. So beautiful and it never seems to change…….

    • It just keeps getting more and more crowded.

  11. Agree with sealights99 – it never seems to change – just so beautiful, full of lovely memories for those of us who have been there and for you Deb especially. BUT still, don’t enjoy driving that winding road -scary, and would never do it again. ( get a good driver to take you, as even the bus is scary) Love it from the water looking back towards the coast, best of all.

    • I am used to the drive. I find the bus fun, even if it is just to watch the terror on first time travellers.

  12. Such a stunning coast line for exploring Debra. Just beautiful.
(I went to a local Italian film festival here this weekend. I tiny taste to bandaid the ache of returning to Italia. Sigh.)

    • Once Italy gets under your skin it is there forever.

      • 24 years now under said skin…which explains the itch to always go back.

  13. To me, the Amalfi coast is one of the most beautiful habitable spots on earth. Thanks for taking me back there.

  14. Those pics are straight out of a dream. I’ve always wanted to visit there. You are living the dream 😀

    • I feel very lucky to be able to visit these wonderful places.

  15. How unbelievably beautiful but I don’t think I’d have the guts to drive round the cliffs to get there.

    • There is a boat, but you get used to the road.

  16. Love the sunset pictures particularly – the cliffs over the sea on the Amalfi Coast are stunning!

  17. Thanks for the reminder of how stunning it is, I have only driven here in a car so a bus might be better for picture taking as you do.

  18. I am looking to learn more about this issue. Thank you for sharing. I will follow this site regularly
