Ponte report

We are having some gorgeous spring weather here in Ponte a Serraglio. My wisteria is growing…here it is just a little while ago as it began to spring to life.

This is the first year it has produced flowers, so I am having fun watching them grow.

…and a bit later.

Here is early morning from my balcony.

…midday.

Some brave souls had a picnic beside the river and one even went for a swim.

There were people on the river on the other side of the bridge too.

  1. Beautiful! (You’d never catch ME in that frigid water, though!!)

    • I might be tempted in mid summer if it was really hot, but the water is freezing right now.

  2. My wisteria has been so sad this year! I also went for my first Mediterranean swim near Sorrento this week – freezing!!

    • The water will be cold for a bit longer, even in the sea. Our river is fed by mountain springs and is very cold most of the year.

  3. Wonderful, Debra! We will be there in a couple of weeks. Can’t wait….

    • I look forward to a coffee and a sfoglia at Il Monaco.

  4. So beautiful, Debra. I love Wisteria. 🙂

    • Me too, I am glad it finally decided to grow some flowers.

  5. Wisteria – one of my favourites and even more so growing on that cute balcony over the bridge – Ponte a Serraglio X

  6. I love wisteria. I so look forward to seeing it and also the gorgeous view. I feel as though this post was written for me. Thank you

    • The view is here waiting for you.

  7. Brr still looks cold! Stunning vistas though in any weather. Brissie weather is perfect at present however (finally!)

    • It is quite warm through the day. The evenings are still cool, but the days are sunny and delightful.

  8. Exactly – I thank my lucky stars I’m still here in this lovely place after almost ten years

    • We love it here. It is always sad to leave, even though I love my life in Brisbane too.

  9. The view of Bagni in the valley is a picture I never get tired of seeing!

    • Me too. I love to stand on my balcony and take it all in.

      • Ahhhhhhh …..

  10. Gorgeous! Let’s hope that weather continues, winter has hit here in Tassie.
I don’t think we’ll want to come home. See you in three days 🙂

    • I hope the sun is shining for you on Tuesday.

  11. Is that the famous Sechio I see from your balcony?

    • It is the Lima, a tributary of the Serchio.

      • It looks stunning. Are there many expats living there?

      • There are quite a few scattered throughout the valley. I don’t know exactly how many. There are probably only about 10 in our part of the village.

  12. I’d love to visit there one day. You make it look so pretty!

    • Bagni di Lucca is a delightful place to visit. I hope to see you here one day.

  13. You know how to tug at my heartstrings!

    • When are you coming back?

  14. Wisteria is such a pretty plant, it looks lovely growing over the railings. I must be a warm climate plant as I rarely see it here (Ireland).

    • It grows very well around here. I’m hoping it does well as Casa Debbio too.

  15. What a lovely place to wake up in in the morning. Your wisteria are coming on a treat. If I were there today, i’d have coffee and pastry in Il Monaco, then i’d take a stroll through the market in La Villa. Then i’d head into Lucca, have lunch and walk/cycle around the walls. Then head back for dinner at Da Vinicio for either beef in balsamico or cinghale in umido – ah what a difficult choice!

    • Today I stood onnmy balcony when I woke up, walked across the bridge for breakfast at Il Monaco, went to Lucca and watched the start of the classic car race through Italy, had lunch at Paris Boheme and will head to Bar Italia soon for an aperitivo…not bad.

      • All your readers are with you on your travels if only in our imaginations! That sounds like a really good day. I’ve sat outside Bar Italia many a time. I must admit its quite a difficult place to leave once you’ve sat down. A great place to watch the world go by. Bravo.

  16. I ask you that question every time you return to Brisbane!! For me… no contest. No offence to you or your fellow Antipodeans! You are one very lucky lady… I wish I could have afforded to buy in BdL!

PS, next time you trip to Umbria, you must see Panicale if you haven’t been there before….

    • I will definitely look for Panicale when I next go to Umbria.

  17. An all day glory. I so love how you end the post. Being there even for just a portion of a day would be heaven for me.

    • I feel very lucky to have found such a gorgeous part of Italy to call my part time home.

  18. Debra, your wisteria are just beautiful! Congratulations!

  19. Photos of Bagni Di Lucca from your balcony bringing back beautiful memories Debra….. Thank you!

    • It is not quite warm enough to sit out there just yet, except in the middle of the day. It is a great place to watch the world go by.

  20. It always strikes me how Italy and I guess Europe in general just embrace Spring with such love and energy. Even seeing a celebration of wisteria on instagram recently was enough of a reminder. Enjoy your beautiful new blooms!

    • I have planted wisteria at Casa Debbio too and by next year it should be looking great. I love it. Spring here is heavenly.

  21. Gorgeous!!!!
