A beautiful sky

I looked up to see this lovely sky.

Today would have been my Dad’s birthday. He was born on 28th November 1926.  He would have been 87, but he only made to 80 and we miss him.

Happy Birthday Dad wherever you are. I hope there is a good golf game going on.

  1. Beautiful image and remembrance.

    • He was a great Dad and we will never forget how lucky we were to have him.

  2. My good memories give you peace on this day.

    • We have nothing but good memories of Dad, we are lucky.

      • Cheers to that!

  3. How blessed you both were to have had that relationship.

    • I know. He was a fun Dad.

  4. We share the same birthday! Happy memories with your dad.

    • Happy birthday to you.

  5. happy birthday, Debra to your Dad – I envy you for your wonderful memories of him – sadly my Dad died when I was still very very young.

    • I am lucky that Dad was young when I was born and I had him for 53 years.

  6. I am sure that your Dad will be happy to hear your message. And as long as we remember them, they will continue to be alive in our hearts and our memories…

    • He will certainly not be forgotten while I am alive.

  7. What a sweet post, Debra. Happy birthday to your father! In the US we are celebrating Thanksgiving today, and I’m thankful for blogging buddies like you!

    Hugs from Ecuador,
    Kathy

    • Happy Thanksgiving to you and Sara.

  8. Debra, similar to you, my Mom’s birthday was 11/26, and she too only lived to 80. And of course, like you, we miss her so much! Great photo and as Kathy mentioned, today in the US we celebrate all we have to be thankful for, especially those whom we have loved and lost.

    • We don’t have Thanksgiving in Australia or Italy, but it seems like a good idea to be grateful for what we have.

  9. Along with the beautiful sky in Tuscany came warm sunshine and I was able to soak up some healing rays just after 2pm today. It helped me to relax in this beautiful country and to remember happy memories of those we have loved and lost. xx

    • We had beautiful blue sky today. It is cold, but some sunshine makes it OK.

  10. What a beautiful tribute to your Dad. These wonderful men live on in our hearts and minds. I just love that we now have the ability to share something about them with the world.

My Dad was born the same year and died right before his 80th birthday while visiting his childhood home above Bagni di Lucca. He came to the US after the war but always returned to his roots. He shared the affection he felt for the Bagni di Lucca area with me and my affection for the area continues. I feel his presence whenever I return.

I think both of our Dads would be thrilled to know that we remember them with great love and respect. Wishing you a peaceful day reflecting on wonderful memories.

    • A day doesn’t go by that I don’t think of Dad with affection. I can’t believe that is 7 years since he died.

  11. DEBRA, YOUR TRIBUTE TO YOUR DAD WAS LOVELY. TODAY I SPENT THE MORNING WITH A WOMAN WHO TURNED 80 TODAY. SHE IS A VERY ARTISTIC WOMAN. VERY SPECIAL PEOPLE WERE BORN ON THE 28TH OF NOVEMBER!
I LOVE YOUR ENTRIES AND WANT TO SEE YOU AND BAGNI AGAIN!

    • I hope you come back soon.

  12. My thoughts are with you on this beautiful day of thanksgiving and remembrance.

    • Thank you. Have a great Thanksgiving.

  13. Big hug to you Deb. This is a lovely tribute to your Dad. x

    • Thanks. It really doesn’t seem like 7 years.

  14. A beautiful memory and photo to treasure! *hugs*

    • I wish he was around with more of his great Dad jokes.

  15. sending special thoughts today Deb. I know how close you were to your Dad X Di

    • He was a great Dad to all of us.

  16. Beautifully remembered Debra…. I have a wonderful Dad too who is now 91… I feel very blessed that he is still with us!

    • You are lucky to have your Dad still around.

  17. Doug is one of those people who inspired all around him. He will not be forgotten by anyone who knew him. In Australian terminology, a great bloke.

    Jim

    • …an excellent description.

  18. It”s so hard even to write and say “when my Dad died” isn’t it. In my case it’s more especially my Mum. The amount of material success a person has is as nothing compared with the love and remembrance of them held by a child.

    • It still isn’t easy 7 years later.

  19. Lovely shot of your Dad and how you must miss him! My parents are in Sydney and I’m going to call them up now!

    • I do miss him. I am lucky to have had him as long as I did.

  20. My mother’s birthday was November 28th also. She would have been 93 and I lost her on Christmas Day 2010 at 90. I still miss her & this lovely photograph and post touched me. Thanks!

    • November 28 must have been a good day to be born.

  21. Wonderful to see the picture of your Dad – really captures the essence of who he was – his love of life and the simple pleasures he enjoyed – his family, his fishing, his garden, his golf, doing woodwork and tinkling the ivories on his organ. I enjoyed knowing him in my life too; so, it’s lovely to share his memory with you. Gorgeous photo of the bare branches against the sky.

    • He loved golf and his garden. How lucky he was to have been able to combine the 2.

  22. A lovely image and tribute Debra.

    • He was a very special Dad.

  23. SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS.
