Natale in Bagni di Lucca

My lovely friend Rosi sent me some photos of the little Christmas market in Bagni di Lucca. I have to say that it looks very cold there right now.

the Christmas market at La Villa

Luckily there are places to warm up while you shop.

that looks like Ilario from Del Sonno by the fire

I wish I was there warming my hands by the fire, then I could head across the road to Del Sonno for a delicious wood fired pizza, or some of Jayne’s wonderful saltimbocca.

Bagni di Lucca is famous for making beautiful Nativity scenes.

As well as the Nativity scene on display in the market, there is a display of old presepe from Sicily in the Circolo di Forestieri behind the market.

The style of these is quite different from those I saw In Napoli.

Back at the market it is time for some warming crepes with  Nutella.

a reluctant Santa

It would appear that David is not all that happy about playing Santa.

I have not had a Christmas in Bagni di Lucca – it will happen one year.

Merry Christmas to everyone in Bagni di Lucca!  Thanks Rosi for allowing me to be part of the cold fun. Have a prosciutto and gorgonzola pizza for me.

  1. Very nice Debra thank you, how did you manage to get the fotos (with me on one of them) from Australia???
    Merry Cjhristmas and Happy 2012

    • Rosi took them for me. I asked her to get me some photos of the market and you are a bonus. Have a great Christmas!!!

  2. Love the posts, my husband and I are spending 3 weeks in Italy next October, just in the research stage of booking accommodation in Bagni di Lucca for for 2 weeks. We can’t wait.

    • You will love Bagni di Lucca! Email me at debrakolkka@gmail.com if you would like some help with your research. There is lots of information about the area in the Bagni di Lucca and Ponte a Serraglio categories.

  3. Thanks for taking me back to my second home for a peek at Christmas. Nice to see all of the familiar places.
Buon Natale a tutti e felicissimo anno nuovo.

    • It would be better to be there of course!

  4. One day we also hope to be there for Christmas! But the “grandparents ” would never allow missing the kids opening gifts…some day…
I am thrilled to see kids! My daughter thinks there are NO kids in town therefore she is afraid to come for long periods of time! ha

    • There are lots of children in Bagni di Lucca, but I don’t often see them out and about either. Perhaps the grandparents would need to go to Bagni di Lucca too.

  5. I agree–David does look like a reluctant Santa. Merry Christmas, Deb!

    • Poor David, I hope Santa can cheer him up a bit with something nice.

  6. Nutella is rather warming isn’t it.
Poor old David looks a bit miffed at his compulsory Christmas involvement.

    • Rosi got a great shot didn’t she?

  7. david does have a growly look, I never really thought about that before.. thank you friends for us, it is great to see what is happening in real time! c

    • I don’t think the real David scowls quite as much as this one. I’ll check him out next time I go to Florence.

  8. Gosh David is a bit of a killjoy this Christmas 🙂 I’ve enjoyed your blog posts this year – Merry Christmas from Chiang Mai!

    • Merry
Christmas to you too! I imagine it is quite warm in Chang Mai.

  9. Merry Christmas Debra! Love Rose

    • I hope you and your family have a lovely Christmas in Bagni di Lucca Rosaly

  10. David looks quite upset about playing Santa! Merry Christmas to you and your family!

    • Merry Christmas to you too.

  11. Beautiful, dear Debra, how I wished to be there too… Thank you for you both, Blessing and happiness, with my love, nia

    • I hope Christmas is wonderful where you are.

  12. Wishing you a very Happy Christmas (I am sure the sun is shining were you are – enjoy)

    • It is raining here in Brisbane right now. We have a couple of cyclones circling and several beaches will be closed over the next few days because of rough seas, but we do expect this at the is time of the year. Let’s hope we don’t get rain like last year when we had floods in Brisbane.

  13. Very nice pictures in this post. Have a Merry Christmas!

    • I hope your Christmas is a lot of fun!

  14. Stay dry and enjoy your time in Brisbane. Look forward to another year of posts from La Bella Italia and beyond… Mary Louise

    • I’m sure I will never run out of Italian things to write about. Have a great Christmas.

  15. No darling, I don’t think this gorgeous man was meant as Santa. (Although it would certainly turn out a Merry Christmas!)

    • You are probably right on both counts.

  16. I can’t wait to spend a Christmas in Bagni di Lucca. It will happen one year, very soon I hope.

    • I hope it all works out for you. Merry Christmas.

  17. Debra: wishing you and your family a happy and prosperous new year. George Miori

    • Same to you George. Will we see you in Bagni di Lucca this year?

  18. Merry Christmas to you too. I bet Christmas is so lovely in Italy.

    • I enjoyed my wanderings through Lucca at the beginning of December with the Christmas lights on in the dark streets.

  19. It looks so warm and cozy in its own little way. 🙂 Simply, Christmasy! 🙂
