The cactus was not really in the desert. It was in the Dubai Creek Park, which is in Dubai, which is in the desert. Anyway, I thought they were lovely and needed to be photographed.
I think these look like 2 little birds sitting side by side. I love them! It almost makes me want to plant cactus.
I find cactuses to be the most unusual looking creatures!

When I was growing up, my parents planted a large cactus in our front yard and it would only flower once a year or so, in the middle of the night. They used to wake us up to see it! From memory, they were white, not the gorgeous pinks of these ones!

There a so many varieties of cactus. I have zygocactus at home in Brisbane and they are gorgeous.

Unfortunately they don’t all come out at once, but I think they are fascinating.

I’m not fond of cacti, but your pictures made them look very beautiful. Thanks Deb for the photos. I heard there are recipes for eating cacti, is that right?

You can eat the fruit of some cactus. I haven’t tried it, but I have heard that it is quite good.

Hi Deb,
Cactus remind me a bit of Frangipani – lovely when in bloom, fairly ugly otherwise! PS Hope you had a great birthday with plenty of Italian celebrations

Frangipanis make up for their ugly winterness with a great show of flowers for months. I had a great birthday, thanks. It was also the 8th anniversary of my landing in Bagni di Lucca for the first time.

Buon Compleanno Debra, and happy anniversary for 8 years…( That’s a whole lot of wonderful I think :-))
Cactus are funny things. I like them, as you don’t need a particularly green thumb to keep them, along with succulents.
