On the second and fourth Saturday of the month there is a fresh food market held in the grounds of Powerhouse Theatre complex beside New Farm Park. It has been going for quite a while now but I have never been. I thought it was time to remedy this, so I got up bright and early, met Liz at her house and we walked together to the markets, trolley in hand.
It was a beautiful winter morning and it made me wonder why I had taken so long to get there. In my defence, I have been many time to the City Markets ( run by the same people) which are held every Wednesday in the city opposite the Treasury Casino. These markets are very good so I had high hopes for the Saturday market.
I was not disappointed. There is a huge range of fresh produce on offer. We were spoiled for choice with tomatoes, delicious looking vegetables, fish, locally produced bread – an endless range of good food.
See what you think.
There are lots of places to get a good coffee. We chose Merlo for our coffee, and managed to force down a delicious cheese twist from the French Sin bakery calvetjp@westnet.com.au
Going to the market is an excellent excuse to walk through New farm Park with its wonderful old Moreton Bay fig trees and rose gardens.
Find out when the markets are on and go! Go early.

Take a look at the Bologna food market. I could spend every day of my life there. I took hundreds of photos and had real trouble narrowing it down.
