Movida is one of my favourite restaurants in Melbourne. When I heard they were coming to Curly Flat (my sister’ s vineyard and winery) to do lunch I knew I had to be there.
The day of the lunch turned out to be beautiful. Vintage Hall, the tasting room at Curly Flat is looking wonderful in spring.
I walked up to the vineyard to see how the new grapes are growing.
Only 2 of the guinea fowl would stand still long enough for a photo. They help to keep snakes away and eat a few pests in the vineyard.
The sun disappeared occasionally behind clouds, but stayed out long enough for some great views.
The vines are growing well and there are bunches of tiny grapes.
When I got at back to Vintage Hall, Frank Camorra, the charming head chef from Movida was busy preparing the fire pit where the paella would be cooked.
The fire was lit.
The huge frypans soon contained the first ingredients.
Saffron was added.
More adding, stirring and tasting.
Looking good. The rice would be added 20 minutes before the dish was served.
Guests arrived.
The tables were ready.
Lunch began. I was very fortunate to sit opposite Emily, Frank’s delightful wife.
The menu.
The delicious food.
Frank and his excellent team came to chat to guests and answer questions.
Too soon it was all over and the buses took guests away.
There will be another Movida lunch in February. Get in early if you are interested. This one sold out in about 15 minutes.
Thank you Movida and the excellent Curly Flat team for a fabulous day.

How fabulously fabulous is that. The post should be in a Wine Magazine – looks just gorgeous and the menu and the dining tables and the gardens and then you drank a lovely Curly Flat wine.
How lovely ! Lucky you! Say hi to Jenny.

I had to smile to myself – you just have the worst luck, Deb!! Did the gardens make you itch to get back to your garden? Lavender and roses are such a beautiful combination. I was interested to note that Guinea Fowl help to repel snakes: people hereabouts tell me to wear the gardening equivalent of chain mail. … and the food … glorious menu and it looked as good as it sounded. I’m always looking for good anchovies that aren’t prohibitively expensive and i’ve just bought some Cantabrian ones, Yurrita, i haven’t tried them yet. Thanks for the trip in your pocket – that was lovely.

The guinea fowl are such noisy little critters. I guess that is what puts the snakes off. They are huge fun to watch. Lunch was amazing!

Typical Spanish food with a contemporary touch. A recipe for success. Cooking paella outdoors is a great way to entertain.
Beautiful photos!

It was excellent. The best bit was that I was chatting to Frank Camorra while he was making the paella without having a clue who he was. He is an exceptionally nice gentleman.
