Marble mountains

While driving back to Bagni di Lucca from a visit to Portovenere we saw this amazing view of the marble mountains near Carrara. I took these photos from the back seat of the moving car.

I have visited the area, but it was many years ago…time to return.

  1. Touring the Inside of the Carerra marble mountain was one of our favorite adventures in the area. Don’t miss it!😊 Belinda Simonini

    • It is an interesting place to visit. There is a lovely little museum up there that is well worth a visit.

  2. Those marble mountains look marvellous! Remember D.H. Lawrence’s poem: “Bats”, mentioning the Carrera Mountains?

    • I do remember that poem, but not the Carrara reference. I will have to look for it.

  3. Perfectly named!

    • Some very good marble comes from these mountains.

  4. I was amazed to find marble on the beaches!

    • Did you see the marble footpaths in some of the towns?

      • No …. probably we didn’t go into the marble mountains. Which town(s) are they in?

  5. good post

  6. The visit to Carrara is one of the best amongst the many options that we have from Bagni. And you will always find something nice for Casa Debbio …

    • I haven’t visited Carrara for a few years…time for another visit.

  7. On my list for my next visit–fascinating!

    • There is much to see in our area.

  8. Very impressive view of the marble from the motorway. From a distance we thought it may have been snow the first time we saw it. There is also a great view of the marble mountains when you travel from Castelnuovo di Garfagnana to Forte dei Marmi. Great memories of taking our visitors on this drive.

    • I have driven on that road. It is a great way to get to the coast.
