James Street, Fortitude Valley is an excellent fashion and food precinct in Brisbane. My favourite clothing shops are here and I do most of my food shopping at the wonderful James St markets. Their fresh produce is the best.
The second James St Food and Wine Trail began yesterday and runs until next Saturday 10th August…a good reason to get down to James Street for some serious eating.
All day yesterday chefs from the many restaurants in the area demonstrated their culinary skills in the Ilve Tent beside Harveys Restaurant. The delightful PJ from Harveys showed us some of his favourite dishes.
What a pity he didn’t give us the details of his Asian chicken salad. I dream of this when I am away from Brisbane and it is always one of the first things I want to eat when I get home.
Say hello to PJ when you go to Harveys. (and tell him he can never take the chicken salad off the menu)
The James St fresh food market had stands outside offering samples of some of their delectable delights.
Across the road there were fruity mojitos made to order.
Beside that the lamb rolls smelled amazing.
There were colorful macarons from Monsieur Macaron.
At the Urban List picnic area there was choice of delicious dishes from local establishments.
We couldn’t resist these meringues with gold flakes from Jocelyn’s Provisions.
My favourite discovery was Bee One Third, Neighbourhood Honey. Some clever people are keeping bees on city rooftops. Jack Wilson and Kat Skull have nine hives on roofs around the city with plans for more.
Each hive produces a different taste depending on the types of plants growing in the area. James St has its own hive. I can report that they are all delicious.
Meet the lovely Jack in his bee suit.
This needs to be encouraged. Look at beeonethird.com.au more information and where to buy the honey.
There are events on all this week, some free, some not. Go to jamesst.com.au for more information.
It all looks soooo good, Debra! But those gold-flecked meringues are really really really special. (And what’s that unusual pink cotton candy-ish thing near them??:)

How interesting that the Gun Shop cafe has a bee hive on its roof. I’ve been quietly dropping messages into Peter’s ear about the benefits of a hive of native bees and have cultivated as many bee-delightful flowers in the garden as I can because I know how important bees are to life as we know it – she says, sounding all swishy-cheese-clothy-and-nose-ringy. Love James Street, their fruit and vegetables always look so inviting and full of possibilities and the butcher has the best Chorizo I’ve come across in Brisbane,

Yes, but you arrange them so perfectly! It takes time to do so. I’ve added a few to my posts but I can never seem to get them to look as nice as yours! 🙂

I think it wonderful and there should be more of it. We have lots of flowering plants on our streets. It makes sense. Take a look at their website for more information.
