At Popiglio, not far from Bagni di Lucca, along the road towards Abetone, there is a very long suspension bridge.

Nila was with her mother, Rosi, who took the pictures. I haven’t been to the bridge, but I will do so on my next visit to Bagni di Lucca.
Ponte Sospeso is 220 metres long, making it one of the longest pedestrian bridges in the world. It was inaugurated in 1922 and was a useful shortcut across the Lima valley. These days it is a tourist attraction, with visitors walking carefully across, hoping it doesn’t sway too much. It is 40 metres high at its highest point and less than a metre wide.
Our children will love this for whenever next we visit.

We will be back in Bagni for a few days in 2013. Must go and see the bridge and a lot of the other places around Bagni you have photographed.
Lovely Nila – I get tears when I see her photo. She is so lucky to be with Rosi and Adriano, they adore her.

These bridges always give me the creeps, especially the suspension bridges in Nepal. I get nervous crossing them as they sway back and forth. What a brave dog!

I had goosebumps and a touch of vertigo just looking down towards the bridge! I would be interested to know how long it took to build this bridge and how the workmen did it. The changing scenery would be amazing in the different seasons. I love the picture of Nila eyeing that bridge with caution – what was she thinking?

Hi Debra, I can’t wait for next June to see all the beautiful places you put on this site. I look at this site regularly and the excitement is building. I hope you enjoyed your Brisbane Christmas. “Nila” what a nice name and what a lovely dog… and How beautiful their owner… She is a lucky dog. But I felt in my heart what she thinks in front of the bridge… Oh, dear Debra, I am so emotional one, tears fill my eyes… Then she crossed the bridge, did she? I missed this point… But probably I couldn’t have crossed this bridge… if it wouldn’t have been long like that maybe I could… but it is too long for me… By the way I haven’t known this bridge before your post, usually in Pakistan, India and around Himalayas I was thinking that these kind of bridges are there… Thank you, I learned something new again… BUT I loved this dog so much, Blessing her. Nila is a beautiful dog and is loved very much by Rosi and Adriano. I don’t think Rosi and Nila went all the way across the bridge. You will notice that Nila was on a lead. Nila loves to run free when she visits the house we are building in the mountains. She gets excited when we get close and likes to get out of the car early so she can run the last few hundred metres.
