Before I share lovely Paris with you I would like to show you the Torres Strait Island exhibition currently on at the Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane. It is on for just a couple of weeks longer and you should go if you can.
The Torres Strait region is located between the northern tip of Cape York and Papua New Guinea and is made up of 270 islands, 17 of which are inhabited.
I loved this exhibition. Take a look at some of the incredible things on display.
I loved the crabs at the entrance.
This was one of my favorite rooms.
Take a closer look at the grass people.
</aThe bronze dugong mother and baby are just lovely.
What could be better than an orange room full of beautiful baskets.
Here is another dugong and baby.
I think I need this turtle seat for my courtyard.
It comes with it’s own container for turtle eggs.
The woven baskets in this room are particularly delicate and beautiful.
The sea is obviously important to island people.
The next room was full of fascinating masks and ceremonial head dress.
The detail in these pieces is amazing.
The shark and crocodile are incredible.
The shark is made from turtle shell.
The crocodile is carved from wood.
I think the gallery does a wonderful job of displaying these works.
These are hand held women’s dance instruments.
The exhibition ends soon. If you can get to GoMA, I suggest you do so.

Great blog Deb. I must go & have a look. I went to the Museum a few days ago as it is now shut for renovations. They had a big indigenous display also. Love your photos.
