Right now is the best time to visit Villa Bardini and its gorgeous gardens. The wisteria is in full bloom. I visited yesterday and forgot my camera! Fortunately, by absolute coincidence, I ran into a friend, Victoria De Maio. She very kindly shared her photos with me so that I can share them too.
The Bardini Garden is actually 3 gardens. The centre features the grand stairway built by Giulio Mozzi in the late 18th century. It is embellished with statues and fountains. On the west is the Anglo-Chinese garden built by Jacques Louis Le Blanc at the beginning of the 19th century as a surrounding to the 17th century Villa Manadora. The farmland to the east has a fruit garden that grows traditional Tuscan fruit trees.
As well as the gorgeous gardens the Villa Bardini offers stunning views over Florence. I find the garden smaller and easier to navigate than the nearby Boboli Gardens.
The wisteria won’t last for long. If you are in Florence, now is the time to visit. Go early to avoid the crowds and stop for a cool drink at the cafe beside the wisteria tunnel.
