Teneriffe Festival, come to the party

All the bells and whistles at the Teneriffe Festival.

I went to the Teneriffe Festival yesterday, Teneriffe Brisbane, that is, not the Canary Islands. Brisbane is my home town and I love it. Saturday was a gorgeous day, perfect for the third Teneriffe Festival. In their own words it celebrates ‘ the history, energy, cultural diversity, commerce and beauty’ of the area.

The suburb was officially named Teneriffe only in 2010. It is the home of the old wool stores and warehouses, but has recently become one of the most sought after residential areas in the city. The old buildings have been converted to elegant apartments and the area is full of great restaurants and shops….and it is beside the river, close to the city and has great public transport…..what more could you want?

Several streets were closed to traffic to make way for displays, food stalls, art and craft, vintage clothing, and all sorts of great stuff.

There was a display of wartime vehicles. The area was heavily involved in wartime activities.

Cars featured in several displays. I met Cheryl and Jim, good friends who brought their lovely old truck along for us to see. Cheryl has owned it since 1952.

They belong to a group of car lovers, some of whom also brought their vehicles along.

There were also vintage cars and just plain beautiful cars.

I love the colourful necklaces, bracelets and pins from Ruby Olive, inspired by her world travels.

And the clever tea towels from My Wooden Heart. The cute business card says You wash I’ll dry.

I had to buy the one with the bush turkey behind the creator.

Two gorgeous girls brought along a great collection of vintage clothing.

I should have found out more about this lovely bamboo underwear.

Meet Jessy Cameron, a lovely friend who helped me with the blog in its early stages. She has a great online business, Molten Store, selling gorgeous accessories and came along to show her wares.

There was music.

Cute dogs.

And of course, there was food.

My pick was the waffle with berries and cream.

I am cursing that I missed the opening event….The running of the rams. It started at 10.00 am promising to be ‘ bigger, better and woollier than last year’……next year….perhaps it will be even woollier.

I think I saw one of the participants later in the day.

I wonder where Gloria will get to live.

Teneriffe is a great area of Brisbane. You should make a point of being around for next year’s festival.

There were ominous clouds appearing as we left, but I think they skirted the city and avoided the festival.

Blue skies over Teneriffe.
