Years ago, before tourism was what it is today, Portovenere was probably a small fishing village. They still fish of course, and there are lots of restaurants gathered on the edge of the sea waiting to cook the catch of the day. We saw some being rushed from the fishing boat to the restaurant. You can’t get much fresher than that.
We had lunch at Bar Al Gabbiano, right by the sea. We chose it for the position, but the food was good too. We had a type of bruschetta with anchovies, cheese and olives – local, I hope.
I hope the sun shines on you when you visit Portovenere.
