Radda in Chianti

After Greve our next stop was Radda.  We have been before and particularly liked the tiny hilltop town so were keen to return.

The centre of the village is the Piazza Ferrucci, where the 16th century Palazzo del Podesta, emblazoned with shields and escutcheons faces the church.  There is a particularly pretty fountain in the piazza and steps lead up to the church.  I love the decoration on the front with the lion heads (I think they are lions) in pairs either side of the front door.

The main street winds up the hill through the Piazza and on a little further before dropping down the other side.   There are several interesting shops lining the street, most of which were closed for siesta by the time we arrived. (We did manage to find a couple of well stocked shops open and added to our collection of Tuscan things.)

There was nothing to do but have lunch.  We went to the same place we ate at last time in the tiny outdoor area across from the restaurant.  We shared a plate of local salami and prosciutto followed by excellent pasta.  The wine drinkers enjoyed their chianti.

There is a lovely park just outside the town with spectacular views over the Tuscan countryside.  We stopped for a quick look before setting off for our drive to Asciano.
