Growing your own pants in Oatlands
On the way from Hobart to Launceston we stopped at Oatlands, a beautifully preserved historical town. It was fairly quiet the day were were there, but the locals told us there would be a farmer’s market the next day, which brings in lots of people. I imagine the village would provide a perfect setting for a market especially at this time of the year with all the summer fruits that Tasmania is famous for available now.
We found in Oatlands one of the lovliest shops I have seen anywhere. A young couple, Debra and Cameron, travel the world collecting beautiful things to sell in their converted cottage. Each tiny room was filled with things I wanted to buy. There were old French wooden platters and carved baguette dishes. I had to settle for a a wooden bowl from country France because the other things wouldn’t fit in my suitcase.
They also had a bigger space behind the cottage from where they do garden design.
