Cold and windy in Viareggio

I went with friends to Viareggio today. After lunch we braved the freezing wind to walk out onto the jetty to look at the wild sea. Low cloud obscured the mountains behind Viareggio, but the view was still spectacular.

You can hear the wind on the video.

In Tuscany we might go back to being an orange zone next week. I am happy that I have been able to get out and about a bit in the last few weeks. I avoid crowded places and don’t go anywhere on weekends. The weather is still crummy, so if we have restrictions now maybe the weather will be better by the time they are lifted. I live in hope.

Right now Carnevale should be happening in Viareggio. I hope this rotten virus is beaten this year and the wonderful Italian festivals can return.

  1. I love reading your posts and seeing your photos. We are pining to return to Italy but it doesn’t seem to be in the cards any time soon. Thank you for brining Italy to us through your wonderful photos and descriptions. Stay safe.

    • International travel still seems a long way off. I am hoping the vaccine starts to make a difference. I would like to go home to Australia sometime this year. As much as I love Italy I miss my home.

  2. Your photos of the wild & woolly weather in Viareggio were spectacular. We also have seen on TV very heavy snow falls in UK & Europe & hope you dont have more in your garden. Keep safe & we also hope this wicked Virus disappears.

    • The weather has been miserable for ages. I am looking forward to spring and some sunshine.

  3. PS DEB. Have just looked at your Post on Carnevale Viareggio 2019. What a spectacular parade and day it must have been. Lets hope the world recovers quickly.

    • I have been to the Carnevale in Viareggio several times and I love it. There is talk that it might happen later this year, but it all depends on covid.

  4. We are having terrible weather throughout Europe. It is improving in the Basque Cuntry as from today until Saturday and we may reach 20º, but bad weather returning on Monday.

    • We have had rain for months, with the odd sunny day here and there. I have had enough, but we can do nothing about the weather. We have had a couple of days where we have had 14 degrees then it is back to cold. Sometimes in winter we have a run of glorious sunny days. I am ready for that.

  5. Debra, your info and photographs on an area of Tuscany are always beautiful and informative. They always bring an uplift to my heart particularly in these dreadful times of Covid 19.
    Keep up the great dispatches!
