Edward VIII sighting

Several years ago I spotted a very dapper gentleman at the station in Pistoia. I thought he looked remarkably like Edward VIII.

Click here to see him, he is at the end of a post I wrote about Pistoia.

I saw him again recently at the Florence railway station. He has not lost his sense of style.

You really have to admire people who put so much effort into their appearance.

  1. I love this post! We were just in Pistoia and Florence in June and in August. I already want to go back. And long time no see! Been so busy lately–don’t get to work on blogging like I used to. Hope you’re doing well!

    • I love Pistoia and will definitely visit when I return to Italy in a couple of weeks. Nice to hear from you.

  2. Wonderfully captured – was he aware of your photographic endeavours? Very dapper indeed, almost a jolt from yesteryear! Does this mean you
have returned to Italy by now? If so, beautiful time of the year.

    • He was aware the first time, which was back in 2011. I think he might like the attention.
I am in Australia now, but I return to Italy in a few weeks. I like autumn in Bagni di Lucca.

  3. What a great time to return; all the harvesting, festivals etc. Everyone preparing to hunker down for the not-too-far-off Winter. Will look forward to your posts – enjoy and …..safe travels.

    • I love the autumn festivals. I will also be pruning my garden at Casa Debbio and getting it ready for the winter.

  4. I would love to know who this adorable man is. Only in Italy!

    • I think he looks great.

  5. I agree, what a delight, and wry stylish, he does favour Edward VIII and maybe Tin Tin in the red outfit. I will keep a look out for him next time I’m on my travels.

    • I like his style and his effort.

  6. I’d love to know his story! I bet it is interesting 🙂

    • Perhaps if I see him again I will approach him and say hello.

  7. They fill a lovely space on earth. Very dapper indeed.

    • I really like the red and white outfit.

  8. Is he British or is he playacting?

    • I don’t know. If I see him again I will try to have a chat with him.

  9. Beyond classic……..

    • I think he looks great.

  10. Oh how eccentric … just love that he takes a bit of trouble…Only in Europe I suspect … can’t really see the Aussie blokes giving up their shorts and T shirt fashion, only complete with a pair of thongs!! Jx

    • I have seen a couple here, but he is special.

  11. I have also seen him a couple of times in the past. One of them in Florence. And I agree, he looks like a member of the Windsor family. It would be great if you could talk to him in the future.

  12. Oh, I’ve seen that fellow in Florence. He certainly is one cool dude!

  13. I think he looks terrific – and remarkably well for his age!

    • I really hope I see him again soon.

  14. He must have a heck of a wardrobe. I saw him in Lucca sporting a blue theme. http://joesretirementblog.blogspot.com/2017/03/a-walking-man-lucca-tuscany-italy.html

    • The blue outfit was very special.

  15. Yes, he DOES look like Edward VIII !

    • That was my immediate thought when I saw him the first time.

  16. Love it. I think if you see him again, it will be time to strike up a conversation. I bet he has a few stories to tell.

    • I hope I see him again. I will definitely approach him for a chat.

  17. Debra …hi and thank you for featuring this gentle-man again. I saw your post photos of him many months ago. I imagined him to be an aristocrat or of an aristocratic mindset. But then he could be a man who is simply unafraid to shine in his own glory. I adore him

    • I think he just likes dressing up. He does it well.
