A wet day in Lucca

The sun doesn’t always shine in Italy and right now we are having some spring showers. Lucca still shines, even on a dull day.

Lucca

The trees on the wall are turning green. Within a week or 2 they will be looking gorgeous.

This roof might need a bit of work.

The magnolias are almost finished on Corso Garibaldi, the flowers will soon be replaced with leaves.

The rain won’t do these flowers any harm.

Children managed to find a place to play out of the rain.

Lucca

The dripping tap joins in with the raindrops.

Lucca

…a sea of umbrellas.

Lucca

Here they are again on the wall.

Lucca

Rain is good sometimes…as long as it doesn’t last too long.

  1. I was so disappointed when the historical parade for the Florentine capodanno (and Annunciation) was cancelled today, because of the rain. Sigh.

Lucca does look bursting with the promise of spring.

    • What a pity! I hope the rain doesn’t last too long.

      • It’s forecast for tomorrow as well. Can’t do a thing about it, can we?

  2. A bit of rain at this time of the year usually brings plenty of flowers in May… And both Bagni di Lucca and Lucca look lovely, even on rainy days!

    • I know the rain is good for our gardens, so we are not complaining.

  3. I would love to see some of that rain here in California, we need it. Magnolia trees in bloom are so beautiful.

    • I would happily send you some.

  4. Beautiful spring branches, dear Debra, Thank you, love, nia

    • Soon the branches will have leaves, not flowers, almost as lovely.

  5. Stunning photos of the spring blossoms. Debra. Love the final umbrella pic. Hope the sun is shining for you now. 🙂

    • There is no sun yet…maybe tomorrow.

      • Like that song from ‘Annie’. 🙂

  6. I iked the rain today just what mg plants needed!

    • I’m hoping it will work some magic at Casa Debbio.

  7. Too bad you can’t send some of that rain out to California – we are in a severe drought 🙁

    • I would love to be able to do that for you.

  8. I love the rain. But not for too long. Rain is good. We are having lots as I write this

    • We need rain, and Lucca looks good whatever the weather.

  9. Lovely Lucca. I’d take it any day, rain sun wind or snow. Lucca looks great.

Rain for now…..much sun to follow!

    • Lucca is one of the loveliest towns in Italy, we are lucky to be so close.

  10. More lovely memories, thank you Debra. We are enjoying some rain here in Tassie after a dry summer (believe it or not!) I can almost hear the garden sighing with relief 🙂

    • The rain will be very good for the plants that are just beginning to grow. It will be fun to watch it happen

  11. Thanks for taking me back to Lucca, even if it was raining.

    • Lucca is one of my favourite places in Italy.

  12. That drip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fantastico!

    • I was quite happy with that photo.

  13. Wonderful photos….and those Magnolias!….stunning!

    • They are beautiful trees. It is a pity the flowers don’t last a bit longer.

  14. I love wet, grey, cool days – maybe because we don’t get too many here – I love any opportunity for ‘cosy’ and ‘kitchen’. I particularly love the photo of the dripping tap. I do understand though how rainy days can throw people’s holidays upside down – and gardening plans.

    • Rain can be a pest if you are sightseeing, but it is necessary and quite nice occasionally.

  15. Such a shame the magnolia’s are so short lived. They are so lovely. Enjoy the rain….it will bring great blooms to the garden shortly.

    • I hope my magnolia in front of Casa Debbio grows quickly. It has survived its first winter, which is a start.

  16. It is so nice to re-visit the magnolias in Lucca. I remember taking photos with my children and the trees in the background. Oh I so want to return. Thank you for the lovely photos, Deb.

    • Corso Garibaldi is a gorgeous street when the flowers are on the trees. I try to go as often as I can.

  17. Even in the rain, the spring flowers are delivering sunshine.

    • We need the rain, so we can’t complain.

  18. Beautiful ! Wish we had signs of Spring here but won’t for a couple more weeks. ☺️

    • There are green tinges on lots of trees now. It is starting to look fabulous.

      • That sounds wonderful. I can’t wait for Spring. We are on our kids spring school break now and spent a few days in San Diego and now are in Arizona. It has been lovely weather and so green! It will be yellow back at home….

  19. Wish I was in Lucca right now. My husband and I have been there many times. For day visits, staying in a villa, renting an apt. Certainly a city I could easily live in. Feel at home whenever I’m there.

    • Lucca is a special place. We were there again yesterday for the garden show on the walls.

  20. That tap!!!! And so on song for your rainy day theme. Love this post!

    • I love the tap too…lucky shot.

  21. The magnolias are just beautiful.

    • It is a pity the season is so brief.

  22. beautiful gallery! Love that arcade of trees. And the magnolias.

  23. Bellissima!

  24. […] Lucca is just 30 minutes from Bagni di Lucca and I visit often…even in the rain. […]
