It is possible to ride around Florence in a carriage led by a horse. These horses can often be seen having a rest and a snack while they wait for the next customer.
I have never had a ride in the carriages, but it looks like fun and it is good to see the horses are well fed and cared for.
How sweet. I’ve done carriage rides around Central Park in New York City, but no where else.

I have done the carriage ride in Central Parl too, on my first trip to New York when my sister lived there. It was great fun.

I haven’t had a ride as yet, either; however, it is on my “things to do” list. I have also noticed how well these horses are looked after. They look very healthy and alert.

I try not to look like a tourist in Florence, so I haven’t done it. Perhaps when we next have visitors I will try it.

This reminds me of when we took a horse and carriage in Vienna where it is called Fiakers and also a memorable ride in Central park New York in a horse drawn carriage. Hope you get to do it next time you are in Florence.and yes its wonderful to see they are in good shape and with a full nose bag to tuck into.

I agree, it is nice to have them around and they always look well cared for. I really hope so…the issue is more what happens when we aren’t seeing them. At night, and especially after they are too old to do their “job” anymore and the cost of their care outweighs their profitability. It is mainly for this that I can’t support their use. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer…I just had to say something. Especially around Central Park in NY my heart actually breaks when I see them…
