The hippos, dolphins and crocodiles have gone from the park at the entrance to Pisa airport and some new art is in place. They were still working on the installation when I was there a couple of weeks ago, but I’m sure it is all uncovered and there for all to see now.
The artist is known as Rabarama. Her real name is Paola Epifani and she creates sculptures and paintings of men, women and hybrid creatures. Her work is on show all over the world and I am sure her outdoor exhibition at Pisa Airport will be very popular.
Click here to see another of her sculptures by the sea at Pietrsanta, along with some truly crummy weather.
I had never heard of Rabarama, so thanks for this intro! Not quite sure what I think of her work…. Do you know what material this is? Some kind of cast resin?

I couldn’t get close as the barriers were still up when I was there. I am not sure what they are made of.

A few interesting angles of some very unusual sculptures. Bet they create a lot of comment

The sculptures are certainly different from the last exhibits.

Interesting choice of sculpture for the location. Did you think it was working?

It was still being installed when I was there, so I can’t really say whether it was popular or not. I’m sure children preferred the hippos.

Is the unwrapped one reminiscent of Gollum and his precious?

I am not a Lord of the Rings fan, so I can’t help you there.

Not sure that I like this style at all. I think I’d much prefer hippos, dolphins and crocodiles. 🙂

I quite like the artworks, but the other display was much more fun.

There does seem to be a bit of fear involved.

Gosh – just wondering if the inspiration for the installation came from disgruntled passengers of a certain budget airline!

It is definitely possible.
