Summer has arrived and it is hot, hot, hot. It was about 40 degrees in Lucca yesterday.
It is time to bring in the hay. I love to see these huge rolls in the fields waiting to be collected. I spotted these on the way from Bagni di Lucca to lovely Lucca.
Nishan will eat it all!!!!

I like looking at hay bales dotting the countryside, too. Before, hay bales used to be square. I wonder why the shape has changed now? Easier to roll them down the hill?

They must be easier to move this way.

It’s so hot isn’t it? And to think that two weeks ago we were in boots! The first wheat crop is all yellow here, and the flowers need a lot of watering. It’s Campari spritz time!

Isn’t it always time for Campari?

Glad to see that you photographed the rolls of hay. We saw them the other day on our way to Lucca and we were saying that you would like to take a photo of them.

Hay-Day already ? 🙂 and it seemed only yesterday that we were all complaining about the cold, snow, rain etc. Enjoy your Campari time – sadly it never lasts long enough. Salute Debra – Carina

Hi again, Debra —
Back in Europe for the summer, spent a week in Milano, then Stresa, on my way to Zurich to meet my wife then to Lake Konstanz for baptism of new grandson born Dec 25.
Will be back in Lombardia and Piedmonte through mid-August, writing, researching, and interviewing translators for new book, “Thirteen Days in Milan.”
Would love to connect if our paths get close, Debra.

It wasn’t long ago when the spring rains reigned. Time to go up the mountain for relief.

I didn’t have a very good vantage point, but it was the only place to stop the car.

What a change in weather! In central France there was a short burst of welcome summer sun, but as quickly as it came, it slipped away once more 🙁

That’s hot! The cycle of nature rolls around year after year … I love when I see hay in the fields if I am driving in the country.

Oh, you mean LITERALLY rolling in the hay. I clicked on this post with some anticipation, Deb. 🙂 But it’s a lovely photo of rolled hay nonetheless. 🙂

These hay bales remind me of the ones I often see when I travel to Tennessee. A sure sign of summer.
Hope you can stay cool!
