Just steps away from my favourite place in Rome, the glorious Pantheon, is Tazza d’Oro. It is reputed to serve the best coffee in Rome. The bar was founded in 1946 by Mario Fiocchetto and they still roast premium coffee beans gathered from all over the world.
The interior has delightful 1940s fittings. Stand at the bar with the locals and enjoy an espresso, cappuccino or the house speciality, “granita di caffe”. Frozen espresso is crushed into a delicious slush to be taken neat or topped with cream.
Start your day in Rome with the perfect cappuccino.

Head straight to the Pantheon from there to be amazed.
Caffe St Eustachio is on the other side of the Pantheon in Piazza St Eustachio and also has claims on the “best coffee” title. I like both.

This is our favorite place! We actually order our espresso beans from them a few times a year. I can’t find any other beans here that even come close to theirs. I prefer Tazza d’Oro to Sant’Eustachio but it’s a close second!

It was because of you that I went in search of Tazza d’Oro. I usually go to Caffe St Eustachio. Now I will have to alternate between the 2. I like to have coffee at Caffe Greco in Via Condotti as well, because I just love the place.

I prefer Sant’ Eustachio, as you know. Very partial to their coffee. I really miss it and Starbucks or Peet’s in San Francisco cannot be compared. Sometimes, in the morning, I walk all the way to North Beach (Little Italy) to have a cappuccino at Caffe Pucini on Columbus Avenue. Not the same thing, but…..

It is always good to know where to get the best coffee in a city. I have never been to Rome, when I get there I will have to rummage through your archives for tips on where to go and what to see.

Amazing. This reminds me of my favorite bar here in Milan called Hodeidah…it even looks similar. Don’t you just love the un-Starbucks-ness of it all????? I’ll have to try this one. It looks amazing.

My cousins 23 year old son who lives near Naples said he wishes Italia had Starbucks but I love the ‘un-Starbucks’ of the Italian coffee shops too! In the states I go to Starbucks because I know what I will get but in Italia I have never had a bad cup of coffee!

I am sure Starbucks will never make it to Italy, I certainly hope so anyway. I drink it when I am in the states too, because, as you say, you know what you are getting, but Italy does such wonderful coffee.

Oh dear! All those visits to Rome when I would go to the Antico Caffe Greco, via Condotti 86, and think I was tasting the ‘best’ coffee in the whole of Rome. Please lets go to your Tazzo d’Oro when I am next in Italy.
