Lunch at Ponte a Serraglio

The weather has been wonderful here in Bagni di Lucca. We made the most of it by having lunch on our tiny balcony overlooking the River Lima. Just look at this view.

Lunch was simple and delicious – first course.

Second course – I used some of the basil growing on the balcony.

Tomorrow there is a chestnut festival in the park near home. I’ll be there to sample the wares.

  1. Two of my favorite things! Welcome home!

    • Thank you, it is great to be back.

  2. looks inviting, congratulation for the nice lunch.

  3. The perfect lunch and a great spot to have it. I am sure that you enjoyed yourselves. Have a great time at the fair and buy some fresh chestnut flour. I have to give you my own special recipe for “castagnaccio”. A bit more sophisticated and richer than the original one… but it tastes great. No harm in altering original recipes if you can improve them……

    • I will certainly look out for the chestnut flour. It looks like a nice day coming up.

  4. So perfect, so Italian! Looking forward to the chestnuts too, Deb! 🙂

    • It should be a fun day.

  5. Looks like a lovely lunch. It must be soothing to gaze down and watch the river flow by.

    • The river looks wonderful at any time of the year. It is quite low just now as there has been little rain. Soon it will be higher as the winter rains start.

  6. Oh, it looks yummy! And the view is lovely–so lovely.

    • The view is one of the main reasons we bought the apartment.

  7. Nothing beats being back to your Serraglio home and enjoying a lovely lunch on your balcony with a view to die for. I used to love opening the doors to your balcony first thing in the morning and admire the magnificent scenery. You’ve chosen a lovely part of Italy to live and share with us. Your lunch made my mouth water. All that fresh basil and tomatoes with freshly cracked pepper….mmmmmm.!!

    • I love the view from my balcony. I wish I could be there all the time.

  8. An idyllic day. The view looks stunning as does lunch- everything tastes better in Italy!

    • Tomatoes always taste better in Italy. I don’t know why.

  9. Perfect!

  10. Can’t wait to get there Deb – hope the basil thyme & porcini will still be there !!

    • I’m sure you won’t go hungry.

  11. It makes it even better when you know exactly where you are.! Yum.

    • You saw my lovely balconybon your trip to Bagni di Lucca. It is a pity I wasn’t here, you could have come up.

  12. I love both dishes. I can get those ingredients, but not easily. Lucky you!

    • The range of prosciutto at our local supermarket is great and the delis in Lucca even better.

  13. Your view really, truly takes my breath away! :O

  14. Have just opened this blog and felt quite sad I have to wait till next April to be there – love that tiny balcony overlooking the village and all the comings and goings.
Your herbs are flourishing by the look of that basil.
