My friend Edoardo has died. A precious little bit of Ponte life has gone. I will miss seeing his face light up when I walk into the Bar Italia.
He wasn’t looking so good when I was here last and I worried that I might not see him again. He was 95, and while I know that is a pretty good innings, I wish I could see him sitting at the bar every day or beetling along in his old car.
He loved having a post written about him. He thought he was world famous. I think he needs a send off.
This morning I went to the cemetery in Fornoli to visit his grave.
He was born 16th April 1916 and died 26th August 2011. He is now buried beside his wife who died in 1996.
The grave is in a lovely position on the side of a hill. The sun was shining on him this morning.
The cemetery is behind the pretty church in Fornoli.
Wherever you are Edoardo I hope there is music and dancing.

Very Nice-I love the cemeteries in Italy as they pay tribute to the family so well and are taken care of nicely in the small towns. I was hoping to see him next week.
I hope to get off the mountain early enough to meet you over coffee as well.
Great inof on Paris thanks so much as usual…

Beautiful tribute to hime, Debra. I will miss him too. He was so nice and wise. He teached me some valuable lessons while drinking a cappuccino. What an example how to become older!

I woke this morning to read the sad village news that the darling Edoado has passed away. He was such a charming flirt -always something cheeky to say when I visited your place over the past eight years. Thanks for sharing the lovely pictures – he would have been most flattered and he will be missed.

oh no…that is so sad. I remember you telling me the story of how he would kick you out of his car before you got to the village because “people will talk”. RIP Eduardo! Maybe he is dancing in heaven with his wife. xx
