This summer 2010 -2011, to mark the end of the first decade of this millenium, GoMA Brisbane presents “21st Century: Art in the First Decade”. The exhibition occupies the entire Gallery of Modern Art and focuses exclusively on works created between 2000 and 2010. It showcases more than 200 works and fetures over 140 artists from more than 40 countries.
Luckily, I live near GoMA. The exhibition opened on the weekend and I went this morning bright and early and waited for the doors to open. It is school holidays and there were dozens of families lined up with me waiting to rush in. Take a look and see what you think.
I could go on, there is so much to see. In the next post on the exhibition I will take you through the fabulous things there for children and their lucky parents. GoMA does an excellent job. This exhibition is exciting and a lot of fun, and it is free. It runs until 26th April 2011. Go!

Magnificent post, as always, Deb! We definitely don’t spend enough time at art galleries, thank you for the prompt!

I got there early. It was crowded, but not too bad. The swimming pool was being repaired (already) so I will have to go back.

Amazing what these artists come up with their creations! My favourite things would be “Wrapping History”, baby elephant, the Aboriginal artwork and the series of busts with various objects on their heads. Great post, Deb, thank you for giving us a peek inside this wonderful gallery.

I really don’t spend nearly enough time at galleries & I live just a few blocks away from the National Art Gallery…, you’ve shamed me Deb.
I love this exhibition, awesome job with the photography – love the deck chairs & even though I have to scratch my head & say ‘what the?’ I just love the ‘big thing’ go figure!!

Perhaps the reason for the deck chairs is to encourage us to sit quietly and appreciate the art in our city. Who knows?
