I visited Victoria last week to see my son, sister and brother. My sister owns Curly Flat, a vineyard/winery in Lancefield, in the Mt Macedon area. The vineyard is looking especially beautiful now with the vines springing to life, and the tiny grapes beginning to form.

As well as producing some very good pinot noir and chardonnay, the vineyard is absolutely beautiful. Here are some pictures I took on my wanderings around the property.

Chewbacca is an enormous cat. My son is almost 2 metres tall, so you can see what I mean. Chewy displays a marvellous economy of movement, unless there is food being offered by visitors in Vintage Hall, when he becomes quite animated and very friendly. He is seen here basking in the glory of his recent mention in the Weekend Australian magazine.

This is a lovely post. Curly Flat is a special place and seeing these photos made me homesick. It is a gorgeous place but the Pinot Noir would have to be one of my favourites IN THE WORLD!

Wow…, Snap! Today Mr HG & I have been planning a week long road trip through Victoria checking out some wineries and I have on my list to ask you about your sisters Vineyard and Whalaaahhh 🙂 Excellent timing, I’ve just looked up their website & will contact them tomorrow to see if they’re open on Sunday 2nd Jan 2011 as we’re passing very nearby – would love to drop in & maybe have a little taste.

I think Chewbacca is much too lazy to hunt. He mostly just lies about waiting to be admired. He has a brother called Sanchez who is almost as big.

I just love the Vic wines (South Australians aren’t supposed to admit that). There are two – probably more- Italian families making wine in the King Valley if you get that way. Pizzini and Dal Zotto. I particularly like Pizzini’s Rose and Dal Zotto may make the only Prosecco in Australia. There are two, one more ‘economical’, but honestly, so good! And nearby Bright is lovely this time of year. Make the trip id you can – ‘vale la pena’ (scuse’ bad italian). Cheers, MLT

Lovely photos of your sister’s winery. Mt Macedon is a beautiful area. I travel to Sunbury often to visit my son, so will visit the winery next time I am in the area. I love that area, beautiful small towns, Gisborne, Kyneton and Daleysford.

Firstly congratulations to Jeni and the team at Curly Flat for their beautiful wines and wonderful looking vineyard and winery – what a special part of Australia it is in – pity someone didnt tell Oprah about that area as I am sure she would have loved to visit there.
