One of our visitors discovered a new bistrot/bar in Lucca and happily passed on her find to us. Paris Boheme is in the little piazza off Via San Paolino where the statue of Puccini stands – or rather sits. I don’t know what drew Sandra to it, perhaps it was the beautiful music that fills the Piazza.
The food is great, inexpensive and well presented, but the best asset is the 2 boys who run the place, Luis and David. David is the charming, quiet one who operates the bar and Luis is delightfully flamboyant. He was a dancer, and it shows! I would love to see him perform, although, he gives a pretty good performance in the restaurant.
I don’t think I need to tell you which one is Luis.
He dances around the tiny space with his tray, sits at the table with you and is wonderfully entertaining. One couple we sent there were admonished loudly and theatrically when they put parmesan cheese on their salmon pasta – a major crime and they clearly deserved to be told so.
We ordered erotic salad – how could you not? I’m not sure how erotic it was, but it was delicious.
You can go just for coffee (or tea, they have a large selection) and cake, a great sandwich or a drink before the theatre – any time really. They open at midday and are closed on Tuesdays. Put it on your list of “must do” things in Lucca. I intend becoming a regular – in fact, I think I aready am. There ia a small indoor dining area, but Luis assures me there will be heaters outside for the winter. I will be back in February.
Oooooohhhhhh this blog entry has made me very homesick for my favourite boys in Lucca …. please give them a great BIG hug from me, and let them know I recommended another tour business; Catherine Stanley to take her guests there also as she does 10 day tours in Italy and stays in Lucca for a couple of nights. love the photos Deb 🙂

Our daughter Elspeth has just been chosen for the Masterchef Top 50…perhaps they can give her some lessons? !!
But seriously, are there any proper cooking schools in the area?

There are lots of cooking lessons available in the area, but it can’t hurt to go to watch Luis and David in action.

Just returned from our “annual” visit to Lucca and of course Paris Boheme where we ate 5 times last year and as many times this year.Luis and David are devine and so is their food which is inexpensive, fresh and beautifully presented. Both Luis and David are currently residing (pictorially),in bathing boxes at the entrance to the restaurant,David in an angelic pose and Luis-well,being Luis, in the other.Luis said “David for the confessions” Luis for the Erotica”.New beer this year “Midona”,presented only as Luis can and ranging in strengths up to 9%-another delight.Lucca is our absolutely favourite little Italian town with fabulous shopping, great restaurants, opera every night and lovely, friendly people-give yourself a treat and visit, but stay in accommodation within the walls and get the total atmosphere of bicycles and locals walking the streets slowly every night starting about 5pm-bellissimo.And of course Paris Boheme!!

I so want to travel there. Lucca is wonderful, I see. Do you know how difficult it is to travel having to use oxygen? Can accomodations be made?
I read the blog daily. Have a good friend who was born there. She and family return usually twice a year.
