I have it!! In my hot little hand I have my Italian licence. This experience has almost put me off Italy – briefly. I need a cappuccino, a panino con prosciutto, a gelato and a walk around lovely Lucca to remind myself why I love this place.
In the end it wasn’t too terrible. I did my parking well and didn’t stuff up on any of the tiny back roads of Lucca. I remembered to drive very slowly and to indicate when overtaking a bicycle.
I am now going to get a large photocopy of my licence, have it laminated and wear it as a necklace.
I also have my new Permesso di Soggiorno after waiting again for ages at the Questura. Now I just have to tackle the bank over a few unpaid bills and I have my official duties taken care of this time.
Thank you to all those who wished me luck. I’m sure it made all the difference.
Big congratulations, Deb! I’ll toast my cappucino in your name.

I told you – competence and knowledge of road rules are optional extras for Italian drivers. Well done!

That’s so funny. I’m sure I should have wanted to lie face down in a tub of gelato and not be disturbed for a week. Well done my clever friend. I am looking forward to the post with a picture of your necklace!

Way to go Deb, you are a a winner! Can’t wait to see this necklace….would you like me to send some glitter for the licence before you laminate it? Love a bit of sparkle!

Complimenti – thought I might have to ask for heavenly favour & burn a candle. I think earrings as well – a ‘licence collection’, of course a bangle for me. Enjoy – driving Italian style.

Oh my goodness – I know what you mean by being reminded why you love the place. So much paperwork, so much back and forth; but my goodness – You’ve made it! You’re an inspiration to all of us who still travel from office to office on a bicycle (thank you for indicating!) and still without a drivers license. Congratulations Debra!

Ann told me you had made it at last. What a lot of pilaver over something you’ve been doing for so many years. Enjoy the rest of your stay, I love this time of year in Italy. It’s the best food season ever.

Thank you for your comments. The figs are great just now and the porcini mushrooms. I have been sampling them.
